Everything is screwed up :( Music showing is a year old, scrobble program won't load

  • Everything is screwed up :( Music showing is a year old, scrobble program won't load

    Hey all.

This pertains to Last FM scrobbling and the site in general, not sure if this was the place to ask, but since it was the program on my computer that wasn't doing what it was supposed to do (and which was then reflected in my supposed favorites here on the website) I'll ask here.

And for the record, there should be bona-fide tech support - I'd be happy to give money to the site if I could know that a problem would be answered by someone who really knows the answers rather than everyone making suggestions or not making them as the case might be.

Okay - here goes; in short, I was updated to Windows 7 (yes, I know, Windows stinks, get some variant of Unix - I don't have time to learn that right now, please no castigating due to tech snobbery, I have enough on my plate) and then didn't have access to my computer for three weeks I was in the computer and another three or four weeks thereafter.

Now I do have access and can use it -- and discovered that the scrobbling program which had oddly linked itself to iTunes (hateful program) - but HADN'T taken notice of a damned thing that I had been listening too. Even though every time I started it up or synced my iPod - it said it was scrobbling or asked if it could -- NOTHING that I had been listening to for the past YEAR was represented.

The music it THINKS I love and listen to is stuff it gathered from prior music listened to before I'd found this website.. it went into the Itunes history and took THAT as a basis for what I NOW like (now in this case means a year or so ago, perhaps longer) I realized that was the case, asked, got no answers, and figured it would auto correct as the music I was currently listening to would become the correct music.

    THAT NEVER HAPPENED.

Broken Bells? Nope. Gotye? Nope. Gorillaz? No no and no. OutKast, Elbow, Sublime, Everlast, Foster the People, Flo Rida -- everything I had listened to, so much music, never showed.

Then today I tried to listen to "my" radio and the app kept crashing. I finally uninstalled it when I came here and verified that the music the website thinks I listen to ISN'T what I listen to. At least in large part, and that it didn't include any of the new things I had started listening to over the past year.

    How do I fix this?

How do I cause this website to "reset" me? Because at this point that is the only solution I can see. I've downloaded the software (the scrobbling program) again, but I haven't installed it yet because I don't want it asking iTunes "Oh what does she like?" and having it set me up with the wrong music again.

Any and all help would be much appreciated.

(Will I be notified of replies to this? I have no idea how to track this post, the website gets so much traffic)

  • If you've already imported your plays you can't do this again, so no need to worry about that. :)

You can also scrobble via Windows Media Player, iTunes, Winamp, or Foobar using the scrobbler, do you get the same problem using either of those?

Try reinstalling the necessary plugins for the scrobbler, in the client go to Tools > Get Plugins.

But I don't WANT it to import whatever from iTunes. I loathe iTunes, it creates duplicates and 3x, 4x, 5x of every song I have and does so in that awful m4a format, actually taking MY mp3s and converting them.. I DON'T want them converted, thanks much, I want them to stay MP3s so that they can be played anywhere. I object for many reasons, some technical and some simply on principle.

Anyway, it took music I had listened to but was no longer listening to and that skewed my "profile" -- and since it wasn't scrobbling all the music I HAD listened to over the past year, my profile is utterly messed up and doesn't reflect my tastes as they are today at all.

How do I fix that? And if it's fixable, how do I prevent it from happening again, telling it to take what it sees from the day it's installed on -- not everything from years past.

I don't think you understood my question, as there is indeed a "need to worry" - I DON'T want it to skew my profile with accumulated old or bad data. I DO want it to scrobble based on what I am actually listening to.

I realize you scan questions and answer them quickly or you'd be deluged, but if possible, I'd appreciate a response to this.

    Thank you.

  • And I apologize

for the delay in getting back to you, I was in hospital and didn't have access to my desktop computer (I'm okay, just catching up)

but yes, sorry for the delay in reply, it isn't for lack of concern, simply lack of access or ability to sit before the computer until the past few days.

go into your profile and delete the plays you don't want, then listen to the music you do want. make sure the plugins are installed and scrobbling is enabled.
