i dont get why people are bitching about it, youve had it good enough a long time, particularly people who had 10,000's tracks scrobbled. give them something back. last.fm are not immune to the economic climate.

  • There are OBVIOUSLY so many people from the U.K. who are in favour of this "minor" monthly installment. Why don't they chip in? Or would that be too much solidarity? Please, for HEAVENS sake, if you happen to have been lucky this time round at least make a MINOR effort to appear a tiny bit less smug... or we might all be forced to smirk Incredibly outrageously when your beautiful, shiny, rich and fortunate countries collapse in a massive economic disaster.... and you all come to beg on our street corners... perhaps you can sing us some of the songs you learned on your free radio.

funny they're gonna allow the countries with the most listeners to remain free, but charge the minority. I think it's because they are afraid of losing their majority listeners.

Malice talks however the f*ck he wants too.

if only you had actually read the thread and related blogs etc you would know the reason why those three markets aren't being asked for subscriptions. but you just carry on in your ignorance.

    Sad

So... No more free Last.fm streaming radio. What a disgrace. Guess I have to move to another (better?) country. Pigs.

    we have arrived.
  • If Last.fm really had to do this, why on Earth would they not include three of the wealthiest contries in the world? Not to mention most of the 30 million people using Last.fm come from those countries.

    Load of shit.

Last.fm Radio Announcement. NON-FREE SERVICE FOR LISTENERS

    Letter to Last FM

I have been a user of LAST FM since 2005, so I have been scrobbling quite a while and thus contributing to create last fm relational database. I got from last fm a lot of hours of music and they got my help to interconnect music, I created events, managed groups, uploaded pictures, opinions, reviews, recommendations, etc.

So all in all I was giving them a service and they were giving me another.

So now that it seems listeners have to pay for this, I would like Lastfm to understand why many people (including me) are not willing to pay for it (though you have already received numerous feedback from users):

    - LAST FM should be a service for the labels and artists, as they play their music, promoting it. Labels should pay (more?) for this.

    - LAST FM offers advertising of fashion shops, venues, music stores, etc. These entities should be the ones who pay for the service. This has always been done in television, radio, etc, and worked fine so far. Furthermore, the following questions arises: if I subscribed, would I still see ads?

    - It is free in UK, USA and Germany, which means that other ways of financing are possible. If they can not do it any other place different from those, maybe it is just a matter of man power, wrong management or whatever on LAST FM side. This is just a guess, though.

    - Users are giving LAST FM the service of sorting out music, interrelating artists, writing reviews, uploading pictures, etc (wiki-kind of work?). Last fm needs our data, our CHARTS, our recommendations, favourites, etc. in order to work fine. Same applies to GOOGLE, Facebook?, Myspace (etc.) and nobody is paying for their service (they found the way to get money in some other ways different from the listeners).

I understand we can not change your company's economic model and policies, but I think it is fair that you get as much feedback as possible from your "clients", as that may improve your general service. In addition, I feel that it is fair that I can delete COMPLETELLY my user information from your databases, as I will no longer use your service, as many other people will probably do soon.

    Regards

  • Since I now received a mail saying my 2 years "trial" ended... I just wish that Last.FM's death is not slow and painful... ;)

Coz yeah, trust me, this community will die... And FAST...

    Later peeps...

As for the proxy... It didn't work for me... I think they blocked the users themselves...

I can't even post a shout on the site anymore, etc... They just blocked us everywhere... I'm surprised I can post...

Only thing that should have changed is not being able to listen to the radio after the 30 song trial. The rest of the site is still free included shoutboxes.

I don´t realy know why you are on this site anymore if you hate last.fm, Last.fm is a good website for listening music and if you like it that much become a subscriber. I will be a subscriber in 30 days :)

ok, here are 2 proxies i tested and that work:

    146.57.249.98:3127
    128.42.142.43:3124

but be aware when everyone starts to use them, they will go down very quick, try to find your own and don't give it out to anyone

  • I Agree with o__o__o__h :

I found a lot of free alternative radio. I like http://listen.grooveshark.com for example.

I love last.fm.. but i will not use it anymore in this condition

  • Its easy to get used to switching on ones last.fm and letting a certain kind of music roll, setting a mood for ones day at work or what ever it is you wanna do and it was very cool when it was free. But to pay is just not on..
Last.fm is good, but not good enough for that. When it starts bugging you for money it just become part of the general fuzz of things wanting fees thats comming at you from all over in the modern world. Its not good at all, but it seems like its unstopable.

  • Radio is by definition free for listeners.... it has always been!! making is non free is an abberation...

what doesn't kill us makes us strange

    EXACTLY!
If I must pay for last.fm radio... this is not radio station anymore.. it was reduced to a simple jukebox or music store..

radios are never free. you may not be the one doing the paying, but someone certainly is. incredibly stupid and naive.

You clearly have an awfully strange definition of radio.
