New Hardware Ordered & Last.fm Webservice

We ordered some more hardware today, when that arrives (should be installed by 30/Jan) it'll speed up profile handling rather a lot. We'll merge the results of the artist moderation changes into the profile data in one go, and the top-N lists will finally update when they should (it's still rather overloaded at the moment, as everyone has noticed ;)

Also published today is the first version of a simple webservice to control last.fm radio streams. A few people have asked for this, so perhaps someone will use it to make a funky desktop player, or flash player.

EDIT: I'm aware recommendations aren't updating at the moment. I'll be sorting that out this week. List updating will still be delayed until this hardware arrives, but we're looking for ways to speed it up in the mean time.

Even if you end up having some trouble installing it, I'll be too optimistic about seeing stats updated to care about the temporary delay heh.

  • Wait, so does this mean that the artists listed twice in my profile will be merged soon? :)

  • I have a question about recommendations and artist moderation.

Say an artist had an originally dodgy tag, Guns & Roses for example. I already listen to this particular band, but because the tag is different to the correct version (Guns N' Roses), it got added to my recommendations anyway. Now that artist moderation has came about, it's been changed to the correct Guns N' Roses yet remains in my recommendations despite being my 17th most listened to band.

Will this be fixed when the artist updating gets up and working again?
