*insert epic sized sad face here*

although i too am loosing some of my favourite features, i hope this gives a chance for better things to come in the future. although the present seems bleak, change is a necessary element to the development and continued progression of a better website. with all of the legal issues surrounding streaming music, and especially since streaming music is a very "young" feature of the great interwebz, i rather expected things like this to happen eventually (even sooner than this). as some doors close, new doors will open, and hopefully these new opportunities are taken full advantage of, whatever they may be/whenever they may occur.

and just to be clear, i am speaking from a user/artist standpoint of course...

Wow, seriously? Personal tag radio was the only thing I wanted when I was a subscriber. No reason now to subscribe again as I was going to do.

Hope this eventually will turn to something much better.

  • CBS/LASTFM has lost their mind!

I had over 200 playlists- many with 200 hand picked songs in them- which I clung to after the last "updates". And I learned to utilize the tagging to also give me what I wanted when I wanted it. And the loved tracks? Another way to enjoy someone's or your own top choice selections.

And now THAT TOO will be taken away. Just what is it that is left to entice me to continue with one tiny shred of hope?

    Danged if I know....

Seems more like an AM station from the sixties....

  • 335 playlists. I

  • speechless..no reason to stay with them...personalization was the key to this site and they have taken it all away...lame

    OMG!

Seriously?! Please tell me this is a joke!!!! It was one thing to take away full track previews but now all this? I WANT A REFUND....I AM PAYED UP THROUGH DECEMBER AND ACTUALLY HAVE TWO MEMBERSHIPS THAT ARE PAID FOR AND I WANT MY MONEY BACK ON BOTH!!!!!!

  • The entire point of last.fm is to be able to cultivate your own radio stations so you can play the music you want. That's what we're paying for when we subscribe. If I wanted to listen to what a bunch of corporate executives think I should listen to I would turn on traditional radio. This is what happens when old-style media corporations run things.

Maybe I should have jumped ship when CBS bought last.fm - the ones who did were just ahead of the curve.

Worst of all I think the last.fm staffers must know this is a real downgrade for the site, hence the refund offers. They know that their service is getting worse, but keeping the traditional record industry happy is the bottom line. We can all storm off the site in a fit, but they're already expecting that and have factored in the losses.

    oh Gosh darn it!

I AM SO PISSED OFF RIGHT NOW THAT i DON'T KNOW IF i SHOULD SCREAM OR SPIT!!!! I know one thing for sure....I am going to hit everyone on my Facebook and any other social site I use and make sure they know to stay the heck away from last.fm....bunch of scam artists....the lot of you!

  • Incredible how blatantly people are able to tear down their own work. I can only support what most of the others already mentioned, removing these features renders Last.fm pretty useless.

Why not pssh rm -rf your webservers? That'll require a lot less work than downgrading each and every feature one by one.

On the Last.fm side, the next best thing to personal tag radios is unique global tag radios, usually associated with groups.

After the first shock I was thinking about this too, but then would it really be worth the big investment, once again? There's a lot of music here, and it's been a lot of time and fun poking into ways to find it. A lot of my personal tags of those finds are put together "for later," but now later is never if it's later than 11/17.

A "sub-global" like you describe could go away as easily later, maybe in favor of just the top 500 globals being playable, or such. I guess any further limitation is possible at this point, really.

  • Last FM Nadir

Last FM has finally reached the lowest point. Without the option of creating your own playlists and playing your own station, is a huge downturn. I will look for another website where I can actually save music and listen.

    Embrace the Nadir,

    Josh

  • Why can't this site get its act together? Last.FM is a good idea in theory, but nothing has ever worked out in terms of promises that have been made. It's like the toadies that moderate/staff here are told to placate members with promises/new features, all the while knowing that nothing is ever going to come to fruition.

I don't listen to the stations or even tag tracks, so I can't care that much. However, I think it's a bit dishonest to promise people something and do nothing but keep pulling the rug out, ever so slowly, from the people that support this site. Very, very bad business.

If you took time to read the original post, you'll see that there is a refund option available to you.

  • WOW! What a shock!!! I spent so much time in building my playlists,
loving songs (more than 9000!!) and tagging almost EVERYTHING...
and now you say that it's over??!! I was so glad to be a Subscriber for all
the good things Last Fm offered but...what a shame! Just hope you
realize that what you're going to do is VERY stupid and I fear I've lost
the main reason to love "my" Last.Fm.. :=(

  • Further downer upon reflection: Given the way the algorithms always seem to pop up the already-played, popular tracks first, it will be even harder to get to hear the lesser-known, yet-unheard tracks- even if they are tagged globally.

  • I don't want my money back

    I want my MUSIC back!

Whoa. Lame. Personal tag radio is my favourite feature.

  • That's why I never play the group tags, dianashamilton. That's why I went to the effort of building my own tags and playlists.

And that's why I scrobbled in 4 year's worth of tracks, to individualize my radio and build a Loved Tracks Station.

And that's why last.fm is useless to me after Nov. 17th. All that effort for nothing! *sigh*

  • It appears

that we have been programming the Lastfm radio for them- and that is all that they want us to do- it sure would be nice if we could at least hear the music while we are doing the work for them

I have created a massive spreadsheet in Google Docs with all my tagged artists and its respective tags. Right now I'm listening to my live tag radio, with artists I may (or not) see live in the near future...

Whoa. I'm speechless. That sucks more than I could put in words.

    Unbelievable !

  • Refunds!

55 Playlists, some for myself, the rest to amuse my page visitors. That's hours of effort, a refund will not make up for that. And directed as usual at the people who pay for the service. Reeled in and then used and abused. Can't say I didn't see this happening. Last.fm are as sure footed business wise as Bambi is on an ice rink.
