    I'm in the US too and I may have been misinformed. I was sure that was going to be one of the changes. Not sure were I read it now...hmmm...I don't want to steer anyone the wrong way.

    I'm mostly upset about the 30 second previews.....it just doesn't cover the kind of music I like. I like the stuff were things suddenly pop out at you and u just can't get that in 30 seconds. It's very limiting for progressive listeners for sure.

    Bingo! I am heavy into progressive and there is no way, 30 seconds can tell you enough about the song.

    I may be in the minority, but I would be shooting myself in the foot, if I had to sign, or book a new artist, based on 30 seconds. granted, I still need more than that, such as live footage, performances and set up times, but that costs money and I NEED those full tracks, to start the ball rolling.

    Once I finally realised, how efficient LFM is/was, for being my one stop shop, I literally, giggled with glee and subscribed - 17 years on-line and I never subscribed to anything before LastFM. Not even my newspapers - I get those for free :)

  • "mitdenohren said... User 12 Apr 2010, 22:16 ...the social music revolution will not be last.fm-vised..." AHA fantastic. =] Im seriously considering leaving now, I probaly wont, But one of the primary reasons i used this site is gone. Its sad. =[ What are we goanna do with 30 second samples? :\

    Crybkeeper....that's what I've been saying..

    There are so many progressive tunes that I have recieved from friends on here....that if they were 30 second previews I might have passed up. But, to hear Anitmatter's "In Stone" or Lunatic Soul's "Out on a Limb" you HAVE TO HEAR THE WHOLE TRACK to get the full impact of their awsomeness!!!!!!!!

    So very true! Or IOEarth who have songs around 10 min. in length - a band that was shared with me by several friends and I was so very glad to sample in their entirety.

    It applies to any type of progressive music for sure. By progressive, of course any music that builds and changes, it's like trying to show how a tree grows with a single picture instead of time lapse photography.

    I copied and pasted the entire Skype conversation to show that I do not censor/edit.

    not relevant to YOU maybe, but according to the number of PMs I am now getting, relevant to SOME.

    : ) happy scrobbling!

    Well then, I will PM you ;)

  • No sir, I don't like it.

    The 'play' links are WAY too hard to find (tiny light blue font, no recognizable 'play' icon, buried mid-page among large graphics and tons of other links) and when I finally found it and clicked it, it shuttled me off to MOG, which asked me to pay $5 to listen to a single track. No thanks! I come here to discover music, and find out what I want to buy next, not to be scammed into buying worthless memberships on other websites. You've lost me, last.fm.

    I have been looking it over and have to say the coding done was very clean and have found no dead links or other issues yet; so my hat is off to those who actually put it together. I once wrote code and want to acknowledge the hidden ones who make it all work. The issue of the mini previews is a valid point from some of the other comments. But I also see you can link to the artist page and hear it in full; so it is just an extra click so far and has done good. I agree on the need to have a longer play for samples just a bit longer so people can decide if it is trash or a good track that would be an excellent addition to ones library. I'm grateful for what you do offer and give you honors on that as free music sites are hard to come across for me as I can't spend the time searching for a SAFE site.

    I want to continue on the topic of safe sites that are available because I'm still into computers and doing whatever needs to be done on it for the customer(I don't charge) because Microsoft ends update support for XP next month for installs that do not include the minimum required service pack 2. So if you have to low level format your hard drives because of an infection and need to reinstall and don't have an installation disc that includes S.P.2 you will need to get another copy that does. That's around $100 that for me I don't intend on spending and will go to another operating system. Need to look at greater issues and the plus minus's and I prefer safety over risk like other services that are share services. They have a bug you end up with it. Plus no issues with D.R.M. crap. A woman here in Maine was fined $30,000 per song for 3 downloads last year. Don't want to pay that either. Overall I like the site and hassle free platform you have developed. Thank you.

    @Cherrybomb:

    Off-site links, to Hype Machine, Spotify and MOG. In USA, we don't get the Spotify and MOG gives you a 3 day trial for free, but after that, it is 5.00 USD a month.
    No full tracks at Last.fm though, just links to other sites. Haven't really researched HypeMachine yet.

    @SKeene:

    I am on WinXP SP3

    Also have a Win2000 Pro machine and a couple Win Vistas.

    Cripes! Didn't realise, that Microsoft was ending support on XP already!?

    Thank you Crybkeeper.....

    ...and so ends another day. I will go to sleep soon and dream of the good 'ol days when you could check out a whole tune and share it with a friend. Sweet dreams to all my last.fm friends! ~Anna

    SKeene1956 - Spotify is supposed to be available in the US sometime this year.

    Hype Machine is a blog aggregator. You don't have to go to the blogs themselves, you can listen to tracks via Hype Machine. It has a scrobbler.

    off topic - dankine was right about hubris. And the there wasn't a typo in the avatar per se, but it did have "the the".

  • Dankine is taking it back to more ancient languages. I think he got it correct. Some people prefer the modern version and others like the Greek translation.
