Blast them into space. It's the only way.

It's a bit over the top. I reckon many of them are having a knee jerk reaction to the dramatically different look. Most should come around the others will either live with it or move one. Best of luck to all of them.

it seems that most of the people complaining are running really low resolutions so they're experiencing a lot of overlapping. it looks perfect at 1600x1200 :D

Hell, it looks fine at 1024x768. 800x600 may still be an industry standard, but it's the LOWEST standard.

Umm, I can try whipping up a Firefox extension that changes the colour. I've done it with other sites so it shouldn't be too much of a problem, I hope. Not a promise though, I'm lazy and would quite frankly prefer taking a nap over coding for anti-pink crusaders from pseudo-{tough, evil}, metalhead-land.

It looks absolutely terrible on my old 800x laptop. Everything mish mashing with each other. But it does look very nice on my 1280x res. User selectable themes and custom css for each user would be awesome and not too difficult to implement.

That doesn't mean it should be ignored. As a web developer, it can be frustrating developing for people who still use 800x600, but ignoring it alienates a lot of people.

With a bit extra time and care, you can develop css layouts to work on all resolutions in all modern browsers.

The design is lovely. The utility of it is still a bit awkward. There is too much scrolling involved, EVEN at 1280 X 1024. The quirky yet attracive rounded bars contribute to this somewhat. The decisions for a linear up-down data presentation contributes to this. Will we get used to it? No doubt. But not all complaints are invalid.

  • i like the new design alot, but a few things bother me:
Will there be color themes/skins in the future?

Seeing the albums chart and popular albums with albums as images without seeing a name under the image or a ranking of how much i listen to it is a bit awkward.

too much scrolling on the main user page. this could be solved by reducing the font size or by making two columns like in the original audioscrobbler.

Its good to see the AS team creating something so kick ass!
I love how you can view a great deal more of top artists/tracks. and this profile editor is amazing.
This is the future of music!

Of course people are welcome to their own opinions on things. With any big change, there will always be those that have a problem. And constructive, well-meaning criticism on how to improve things is no doubt appreciated by the dev team.

However, I think it's disgraceful the level of respect many people are showing. Whether or not you like the new site, all AS users should recognize that an enormous amount of hard work went into creating the new site. If you have some criticism, you should at the very least acknowledge that.

To complain like spoiled brats without giving props to the team for providing us with what is one of the coolest websites out there is, I'm sure, really disappointing to them. Imagine you work your ass off on something you love, for people you think appreciate what you're doing, and then you get shat on. When you add this to the fact that many of the complainers do not even donate, it is too much to believe.

I hope the AS developers know that there are many who do appreciate your hard work. As for me, I love the new site. Sure there are issues, but I know you'll work on getting them fixed. Thanks much for coming up with an excellent new site, I will definitely start my monthly donation back up.

No what is disgraceful is dissing everyone who has any sort of complaint like you have done all over the map. Having worked on open source projects on my own time I know full well how people can be jerks. However, that is the nature of the beast if one cannot accept that people will be people then you should NOT be working on a public project like Audioscrobbler/Last.fm.

Despite the crap developers go through they should never get so tainted as to treat any and all criticism as a personal afront. Even some of the biggest jackasses can have really good suggestion or points you just have to pick through the comments to find them.

I have seen lots and lots of complaints and many are getting listened to but other common complaints are getting blown off or turned into veiled personal attacks and that is just not right. The common attack is to say that people are afraid of change ... I wasn't I was looking forward to it but ultimately I was disappointed in many ways. Most of them are cosmetic and oddly this seems to evoke the most venomous attacks.

Frankly I think the functionality is great but the cosmetics are not to my liking. I made suggestions in another thread and comments about why I do not like the layout. Unfortunately they were not recieved well at all and that is unfortunate but I can live with it.

Oh, dear. She's stuck in an infinite loop and he's an idiot.
    Well, that's love for you.

I had no issue with your post in the other forum, Tuna. Apparently you thought I was addressing you because of that other guy you got into a beef with posted around the same time. I was not talking about you or to you.

My comments are geared toward those who are just ripping on the new site and showing no respect to the development team. Certainly you won't deny that these kind of comments are being made by some others...

Criticism is good (like yours in the other forum) when it is balanced and respectful. As I said above in the first paragraph, no doubt the developers appreciate constructive feedback. I assume they want to make this the best site more than any of the users. They need feedback/criticism to do that.

Enuff said, I think you have taken something personal which was not meant to be.

This is the internet, it's by definition an impersonal medium, please don't take things I say personally, because they are certainly not meant as such.

  • Tuna, its really not the big deal you make it out to be. Just be happy the developers even spent time on the site to improve it.

i don't mind it .. but i think custom colors or 'styles' would be awesome that way we can have a little more individuality among the different users and switch up our pages a bit.. and i don't like that the 10 most listened to tracks is now gone .. i kinda liked that update each week. i think i preferred the two columns too .. like for the weekly updates ..

OH and another idea .. the people we have listed as friends, maybe have their name change color or something when they're online .. i mean yeah we can check if they're online but just going to their page and see if they're listening to anything .. but it might be kind of cool if their names just glowed or changed color .. i'm just talking out my ass now. :D
