    Playstation 3 support

    Hey,

I was just playing some tracks on my ps3 an then thought how cool it would be if these scrobbled.

Does anyone know if this is possible or if it likely to be in the future?

    Thanks in advance

    x

    very very very cool!

If you install linux on your ps3 and listen to music that way you could scrobble it... but it would be soo much nicer to have it scrobbled from the usual way of playing music...

Any idea of how this could be done? I don't think Sony would allow any unauthorized daemons on their system. The way I see it it would have to be either:

    1. Sony integrates last.fm support in a new firmware version (in that case, someone will have to convince Sony that this is a killer feature) or

    2. The Last.fm (community) makes a music player distributed as a game on the Playstation Store. This, I presume, cannot be done without paying a greater fee to Sony for using their store.

Suggestions? Perhaps they'll add support for third party programs in a future firmware update, but I don't see that coming as they've allowed installing third party operating systems for this purpose.

Well I know this is a Playstation thread, but I wouldn't mind it for my Xbox 360 either. I really don't see why it shouldn't be possible. Last.fm is quite well known and I'm sure Sony/Microsoft would partner with them to deliver an embedded program if need be.

More and more people are starting to use their consoles as media centres these days (including me), so this is inevitable. I hope the devs can rustle something up!

  • I totaly agree! I just googled "last FM for PS3" in the hope of finding an app (even thouh I knew I wouldn't. That's when I found this thread.

I almost only listen to music on my PS3 at the time (at least at home) and that is why I would really like a PS3 plugin. If enough people writes something here, maybe Sony will see it and release something:P let us hope that happens, even though we all know it won't XD

I'd be happy just to have it work in the browser, even if it's just a simple little music playing app, rather than the whole site hacked to work. I'd love it =D
This way, perhaps it would work on other web devises that aren't supported right now.. Kinda like a last.fm lite or something =P

  • Fingers crossed that Sony decides to integrate some sort of scrobbler in the next Firmware update!

I think the chances for a Sony (PS3) developer reading this thread is about 1/100000. Anybody willing to contact them? I tried browsing the support page, but couldn't find any contact information.

Perhaps posting this in their forums would be a good idea too. I did a quick search for last.fm and there seems to be quite a few users there, but no thread like this.

I don't even own a PS3, I just borrowed one from a friend to run MGS4. But last.fm integration would certainly be a nice feature.

  • Media Server

What about a last.fm media server. I'm currently running PlayOn Media Server on my computer which allows me to stream video from Hulu, Youtube and soon netflix to my PS3. I will never need cable again, now an internet radio app on my PS3 would be even more useful.

  • I have to disagree on this one

I don't get the point of this, A PS3 is mostly used for playing games, watching blu-ray movies and a few other minor things but a media center? Is something wrong with using your computer to scrobble music?

    Online Petition ?

I don't know if its worth it but can't you set up one of these online petitions then send it to sony just to show how many people like the idea.

Why disagree? If you don't like the idea of PS3 Support don't use it...
There are surely some people using their PS3 as "Media Center".
It's possible to play games, watch movies, why not listening to music too?
If there's someone out there willing to code something like that is another question :)
