    last.fm in serbian language

    Is that possible?

    Thank you for your reply.

  • It doesn't look liek a Serbian country-manager or intern is needed at the moment. I guess it will take some more time before that part of the world will be conquered.

    Why?

You do not have enough users from Serbia?

  • :P
I guess there are not enough Serbs living in London ;)
It looks like Last.FM is using the native language of their employees as a first step to set up a new site.

I agree with Aleksandra's idea. Last.Fm would be much more better with option to switch from English (or other language) to Serbian!

If last.fm doesn`t conquer Serbia... we, Serbs, will conquer last.fm, so the official language here will be Serbian :p

    :))))))

Yeah, i totally support the initiative! More languages!!

You should really take this for serious and we could manage to translate "last.fm" into serbian. I'm sure that many serbian-speaking people from last.fm would participate.

That has been said several times over (replace 'Serbian' with any other language).
However, there are a few things that are always forgotten.
    * Last.FM is a living web-site, changing tiny bits fairly often, so there ought to be someone available to translate on the spot, as soon as the need arises.
    * There is a lot that needs being translated, and at the same moment kept hidden from the public. Having that same user-group translate means that Last.FM would be spoiling their new releases.

Remember to say "thank you" for the things you haven't had
  • I honestly have no opinion either way (the only language i speak fluently is English), but I would like to point you to http://translate.xanga.com/ for, in my opinion, a very good example of how to possibly allow for users to help translate your site.

When we translate Last.fm into other languages, it's a lot more than just translating it, we also have someone to manage the PR and any business development associated with that language. As brief as those terms sound, it encompasses a lot of work, and is a massive undertaking.

That said, all translations are done internally by hired members of staff, and not the community, as there are resources which we can't disclose that are worked upon.

As it stands, we're tackling the larger markets for now, and working our way round to other languages depending upon the resources we have to hand to manage the aforementioned.

If, and when the time comes for a Serbian translation, there'll be a notification for a job position that entails the above, on our jobs pages. Until then, you'll just need to wait it out.

I heard that like 50% of Londeners are actually from South Africa... so can't you please hire a South African bloke up there to do an Afrikaans translation?!? Please.... :,)

I hope that soon we will be cooperating.

But tell me one more thing -
you wrote: "when the time comes for a Serbian translation" Could you tell me from what it depends? What are criteriums/specifications on which you rely on when you choose in which languages you're going to translate Last.Fm?

If a Serbian guy somehow miraculously shows up on their doorstep. That's when they'll consider it.

Let's have a Pig Latin site!!

  • I was just wondering if it might be possible to have support for other languages which does not actually involve a full translation. Some users may be happy to have most of the site in English, but might want to be able to see journals or artist wikis in their own language. Something like that could probably be implemented by being able to choose a language for a journal entry. It would probably be more complicated for artist wikis (the option would be needed to view and the different language versions of the wiki for an artist) but it would probably still be doable.
One issue would be moderation, anybody moderating the artist wikis would need to know the language they were written in so it would still be necessary to have moderators who speak each of the supported languages.

Free speech comes with a Last.fm babysitter to read our posts? This is NOT an attack on Last.fm

If something illegal were to be on a site, then I would think the authorities would be the appropriate people to hire translators.

  • CZECH translation

'Aaight! Once you get down to exploring the miniscule Czech market, let me know. Well, 10 000 000 people... isn't that 'miniscule'... izzit?

    Misch
PS: Would a slightly above-average looking Czech chick do? ;)

The force is really rather strong with you.
