January 11th site update

  • I might just be completely missing this, but last year there was a thing where you could see how much YOU listened to an artist compared to how the rest of Last FM did, the top 40 at least. Is that hidden, or gone? It was awesome.

  • "Find out what your friends listen to. Now you can see your friends' playcounts on artist pages, with a chart of who listens most."

That's pretty nice, been waiting for it for quite some time, so - thanks! ;]

I realised his problem - it's not counting the plays imported from iTunes upon signing up. That doesn't explain any of my minor discrepancies though.

I don't understand the Delveable charts feature. What chart bar are you referencing?

The blue bar. Nice feature BTW, but it broke my scripts B-)

Oh well, they'll get fixed eventually. Thanks for the new toys!

I LOVE this. <3 Came here to come post that I love it.

I dont think its that because some of my totals are still well below what they should be even if you subtracted the original itunes amount

  • Some of my play counts are way off in /home/friendslistened, too. I have never imported from a player, so that's not a factor. Example artists: Tereza Kerndlová, Maja Keuc, Natalia Lesz. With the first two, it doesn't even show a count for me.

Sadly not directly but you could try Tampermonkey to try that specific script. But there are some extensions for scrobbling from Myspace for Chrome like Chrome Scrobbler (also does Youtube) but I haven't tested either so I can't say for sure that they work.
I remember checking that a few months ago, and it did not work back then. Probably it would not work with the new Myspace player anyhow which has some new features.

A Google search gave me a comment made 4 years ago: "The bitrate varies from ~64kbps to 256kbps vbr (maybe even higher)." but that might have changed.VBR going up to 256 kbps might indicate that they use LAME for coding their MP3 content (perhaps with the -V2 setting) which would explain the very good sound I heard yesterday with the typical difficult-to-encode heavy rock high frequencies.

The AC/DC "similar artists" radio ran for four hours without any ads, six AC/DC songs and only one repetition of a Van Halen song during that time, then it stopped, and I had to refresh the page to continue with ZZ Top. Maybe this is intended or a small bug and/or caused by the ad blocker in Opera, but generally it seems they have worked a lot during the last months to "get their act together", as I remember it not working most of the time for me (in Germany) in the past.

At the moment I'm listening to their ZZ Top radio which they call "Smart Radio", and I discovered that you can influence its content when you click on "options" in the playlist. You can define which period of time ('60s etc.), popularity (well-known vs. unknown) and even single artists should not appear in your radio station. I wish Last.fm would have that for the Similar artists radio, too. ;-)

  • Nice! I like the new friend charts on band pages.

  • Have been redirected here by a mod, though I am not certain this is really the right place. Don't blame me.

In the Best of 2011, please can you add some more tags, (including Country). You have a few, but I'd like to see how popular some of my favourite artists have been, within their genre.

Also; like the friends listens thing on the artists pages. Very useful. :)

That's what I thought at first, but "Who listens most" says 847 but I've listened to Taylor Swift 870 times since getting last.fm.

  • I just noticed that now if you look at an album in your library you have a link to go to the album's page. I dont know if that was part of this update or if it was slipped in there before and I just didnt notice, but I really enjoy that new feature.

This here. I swear that link wasn't there before. :o It's quite convenient.

Despite the problem of incorrect playcounts in the "Who listens most" section, this has been a fantastic update. Honestly, it's the first one I've been excited about in quite awhile. Awesome stuff.

Thanx A LOT for friends' playcounts on artist pages!

  • I've also noticed that the playcount in the explore page doesn't take into account the plays that were imported from iTunes after signing up.

Anyway, great update! Loved the new features.

    2 issues with current updates

    1) Cosmetic fix -- Show the year in the Explore i,e. I was looking at my very last page -- page 533 and it was October (I have been a member of last.fm since mid-2008) so what year is this October in? I assume 2008 but you know what can happen when you assume something.

    2) Under My Tracks, it states that I have 1066 pages of his history but if I surf to the last page 1066, My last page of History, I get a 404 error. In fact it I surf to page 51 of my history, I get the same 404 error. As a web designer/program, 404 messages are not a good thing. in another thread it was stated that this was a cosmetic change. 404 error's are not a cosmetic change. It shows bad web development. Cosmetic changes are like above when you make something a "little" different especially to clarify output. 404 errors do not clarify output, they leave the end user wondering what the heck happened or what did I do wrong so therefore aren't a cosmetic change.

    It is a demo version.

Even in demo versions, feedback is needed so that the developers can make changes that the users want to make it better for everyone. Demo versions can become non-demo versions.

Since I have been using computers for 35 years, I am more likely to use the keyboard instead of a mouse. Still like using a command line better the GUI. However surfing the Web in text mode only is boring. I feel one should not have to hover over anything to get a complete date.

Keyboard? Pshaw, spoiled kids. We had to gnaw out holes in paper cards. And we loved it, because it meant we didn't have to toggle in codes until our fingers bled. B-)

Just offering a method that you could use until the year gets included.
