Play Radio with API

  • Play Radio with API

I understand that to play the radio over using the API, you need to be a subscriber. Yet it is possible to play a radio station with the official last.fm player and as well as over the website (btw I live in Germany).

Why the restriction of the API but not of the official last.fm player and the website ? Why block 1 and allow 2 other options ? I mean with a bit of packet sniffing and/or usage of scripts another application will be able to mimic the last.fm player.

I'm not sure how to word it, but is there an easy way play last.fm radio stations without using the API ?

  • Hi, can you tell me where that restriction is written down? I didnt find any clear announcement that says:

"Streaming through third party apps needs always a subscription, also if youre a German UK or US resident."

My streams within amarok only work with a subscription. I was not sure if that is an error or if that is the status quo.

Do you have a link where that is absolutely clear defined?

take a look at http://www.lastfm.de/group/Last.fm+Web+Services/forum/21604/_/517212/5# and the two following posts

Was that directed at me or ElektroHexer, because you'd be answering his question. Not only have I read that but also failed trying to play a radio station through with the PHP libs, which brought me here in the first place.

We have to pay for every track we stream. We subsidize free streaming on the web site and in the client from the ads we serve.

Trying to circumvent this restriction will not make us very happy.

Oh I had no idea you had to pay for each streamed track :-( Well that's a bugger. I now understand the restriction.

I will have to resort to other music services like Jamendo to play free music.

    Ty for your answer.
