    Player 1.1 retracted

There's been so much trouble with this version that we've removed it for the moment. You can download the older versions here.

  • I hope we'll still be able to use 1.1 if we already have it and can do with the bugs... remember that the older player versions don't work on Windows ME! I wouldn't like to be forced to revert to Last.FM proxy again, since that one is much more cumbersome to use and also doesn't support in-player tagging.

Yeah, anyone who is using 1.1 can still do so if it works for them. We're just seeing too many problems with new users.

if i can help debug at all, i dont mind assisting. ive had nothing but troubles with the latest player versions (crashes before it even opens the window).

i used to write code for a living, and i dont mind installing debug environments or such like... (running XP pro SP1)

well whaddya know. it just worked, and i'm listening to a stream too. let's see how this progresses.

  • I was wondering, as I couldn't get 1.1.1 to work and just noticed that an older version was back up for D/L.

(In my case, the Player didn't appear to launch - it flashed up for a split second and then disappeared, and yet it appeared at player.exe around 11 times in Windows Task Manager....!)

OK, will give 1.0.4 a go then.

http://www.last.fm/forum/21714/_/62786 Plus there are another few threads here about the linux version repeatedly crashing... this happens when ALSA is set as the output.

I have to say I haven't tried the ALSA support because my sound card isn't supported by ALSA...

    (not that I'm bitter)

  • Alsa won't use Dmixing, which is ultimately the reason why so many people use it now.

No matter what last.fm will use up my soundcard directly. However, using the "external media player" option i can get XMMS to connect to it for proper Alsa support(and multiple sounds at once through Dmixing)

EDIT: Also, from what i hear through friends, the new Last.FM player won't use Directsound/Wineout's mixing features on Windows, which means on onboard soundcards you can't play multiple sounds while using last.fm, just like the linux version not supporting Dmix.

  • HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just wrote a very mad post somewhere. I'm sorry. I have been so frustrated that when I downloaded the new player nothing would register to my page no tracks played or to tag and I had been streaming all day. I've tried deleting and redownloading, signing up under different names and what have you. I am logged in under my correct user name and am now streaming. I saw all the new recomendations and all of the other cool stuff you have done. If you can help me I'm jimpowell62959@yahoo.com Sorry this was so long. I really like this site It is my favorite.

It's been almost 6 months since I've been able to use last.fm's player due to the Windows 98 incompatibility thing... and I was so sad to hear that the player that I think might have worked on my computer was retracted before I noticed it was around... *sighs* I'm trying to be patient but I miss the musical-goodness!
Is there really any way I can get a player to work on a win 98 system... I wonder... or an idea of when a player might be released that I can actually use? I really love last.fm and really really wanna listen to the tunes again...

  • Use Last.FM proxy

It's a sticky on here somewhere.

Also, there is a 1.1.2rc on these forums somewhere, i've seen it posted twice. It's supposed to work with win98(although i haven't/cannot ever test it ;)

Over here on Slackware 10.2 with kernel 2.6.14 and dropline gnome, the player 1.1.1 works very good.(once i plug XMMS into it)

Thank you very much. That little piece of help allows me to listen to last.fm again. I'll likely become a paying subscriber again once the free subscription ends now that I can listen again! :)

    Re:

    Quoth Russ:
Please explain what's wrong with the current ALSA support!

Las.fm player seems to use rtAudio as audio-output, and it seems that rtAudio doesn't support/use alsas plugin-interface (so no automatic dmix on alsa > 1.0.9rc2 etc). It's not so much a last.fm-player fault, more rtAudio problem :/ I think that samplerate problems with alsa are because of same reason.

At least what I readed on rtAudio pages, it seems so. So I could be wrong ;)

  • win98se and last.fm

erm... i am unable to find a link to the older versions. could someone point me to a direct link ?

for the record i gonna write my issues on winxp systems: common stations suddenly display that there is not enough contentm, while there is on an older version; the player streams sound but the according trackinfos take long to load, mostly displaying correct when the next track is starts.

secondly: i love the new features. is there a ETA for the next (fixed) version?

    all the best
