Visual Radio stops playing — any update?

I can only manage to get the Visual Radio to play maybe 6-10 songs before stopping. The music just stops, the player shows a black box and the artists area disappears.

The Known Issues page says "If you get the error, "Oops, there was an error with this station, please try again" after skipping several tracks, or during listening try closing the browser tab/window and reloading the page."

Reloading the page will restart the music, but it stops again after another 6-10 songs (generally, every once in a while it will play much longer).

This is on Safari 5.0.5, Mac 10.6 with latest updates of everything including Flash.

Any thoughts? Is refreshing supposed to solve the problem, or did I misunderstand and there is a fix in the works?

    Thanks!

    New day, music still stops

Tried clearing out the cache, restarting the browser. Music still stops after ~10 songs, with no error shown. Any thoughts on this?

  • see here please -> use the scobbler and see if that also hapens there + check then for logs please

  • You don't always get the "Oops error" message, sometimes it happens twice within a few songs and sometimes just a single time all day. But I dare to say it happens to me at least once a day, but often not more than three times.

    Checking with Scrobbler

@Erkan-Yilmaz - I'm not sure what I was supposed to see at that link. Looks like a quite different problem. My music is not skipping tracks, it is just stopping completely.

So far it looks like the Scrobbler can play without stopping, but I'll keep trying it today and tomorrow to confirm.

    Chrome too

Google Chrome (Mac) has the same issue, but shows the "Oops..." message. I will try IE in a bit.

In case it helps, I've noticed that it only happens when switching songs, it never cuts off the currently playing song. And it often happens when I click Next or Ban (but it has also stopped a couple times when I wasn't doing anything).

  • I actually stopped listening with browsers :-(

the constant problems got on my nerves (see also radio stops + tracks (do not) get scrobbled - section: I.a. message: Oops, there was a problem starting this station. Please try again.)

I use now the scrobbler, works fine, and I do not get so angry anymore (back then I was thinking about reputation of last.fm getting worse with those problems, but well... it seems only when a lot of people complain things will change :-( )

some thing I miss in scrobbler: the info why some track was recommended

  • I still prefer the web radio to the client just cos it's got more stuff I can see in an glance and click on :-)

It's very annoying that the "Oops, there was a problem" also means that the track that is listened to at that time is almost never scrobbled even if it's listened to start to finish. Adobe released a new Flash player gonna install it in a minute see if that changes anything.

  • Well, new version Flash Player installed (10.3.181.14) for Opera / IE / Firefox but this issue continues to occur at least under Opera. Although I get the feeling that it happens more oft if I got Firefox open as well. :-(

    Related to skip, ban, pause?

This is interesting: if I start the music and leave it alone it seems to play fine. But if I skip, ban, or pause, a few songs later it will stop playing. So I can listen at least, but this is rather less than ideal.

    Does that help at all?

    Happens in IE too

Tried on IE 8 as well, Windows 7 w/all updates, latest Flash, same result.

Starting to feel like I'm talking to myself here, though.

I have the same problem. Very annoying! I simply can't use the last.fm player in a web browser (Mac), music stops playing after some tracks are skipped or banned. I tried on my iMac (at home) and my MacBook Pro (at work), same issue (MacOS 10.6.6 and the latest Flash Player installed on both Macs). I don't use the last.fm scrobbler, don't like the interface at all.

I'm a paid subscriber but can't use the service the way it should. Too bad! If the problem persist I won't renew my subscription next month...

Don't feel like the lone stranger.

Probs as you've described as well as others you haven't
are sky rocketing in frequency since the four day weekend over there.

I've never seen the point in preaching to the choir and its deaf/dumb/blind(?) directors.... although sometimes I just can't help myself!

Hope they get it fixed for yall - it was a great service way back when....

    Still not working

In case anyone was wondering, the visual radio still stops every few songs and needs to be restarted. Still no indication on the Known Issues page if anything is being done to correct this, or a reload is expected to fix (it doesn't).

  • We have a bug ticketed for this very problem, however it's proving troublesome to fix.

In the meantime, you can hard refresh the page (CTRL+F5) to fix it, but i'd recommend listening via the desktop client until this is resolved.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the update @Knapster01, much appreciated.

  • The last days I seem to get them more often, even a daily full crash of Opera when the LFM radio is the only thing active on my PC :S

    Fixed?

Has been playing well for me the last several days—seems fixed, even though it is still listed on the known issues page? Happy listening regardless!

  • ^It's tentatively fixed - Dan wrestled with the VR2 code for several weeks before proclaiming victory over it; however, we're still checking to make sure there are no outstanding bugs left. From our internal graphs, it seems like radio streaming has increased significantly since the fix was deployed, so that's encouraging.

Are you using the new Last.fm Desktop App yet?
