I've noticed that as well, and it seems to have appeared at the same point of time as the recommended music problem I've described in my thread. They might be interconnected.

  • I've noticed this too, but it actually seems much more accurate now though. Since I've got a fairly exponential chart, it seemed like however they were doing it before was only paying attention to my very top artists, which isn't a very accurate way to do it, IMO.

I'd have high compatibility with people who had listened to my #1 artist a lot too, even if we shared no other artists, and low compatibility with people with whom I had a ton of bands in common with, but just because they didn't listen to my #1 the rating got hurt drastically.

I assumed the change was the result of a new formula.

Music compatibility is a LOT better now. Like Desiderata03 said, if someone didn't listen to my #1 artist, it didn't matter if we had everything else in common, we'd still have a low compatibility. And people I had nothing else in common with had super compatibility simply because we listened to the same top artist.

  • Bumped. I noticed this issue too. Is this thing fixable?

I agree it's better than before, but to a certain degree.

Some people with who I have a few artist in common, but not at ALL their top artists are still ranked very high with me..

  • i think its a new system of last.fm, it's better for me to get more neighbours etc.
but it sucks when i have a few artist in common, i'm agree with papaganz...

Just because someone thinks a few artists are "just ok" and that I agree with him/her, doesn't mean he's my neighbour.

I think that's what's wrong with the new system.

Music compatibility is WAY worse now. Not only does this coincide with recommended events getting worse, it is also linked to the neighbours getting much worse too.

Currently, there are a couple of people I am being rated as "high compatibility" when I hate 492 artists in their library, but they just have 8 which I happen to listen to.

To me, that is not somebody with whom I have high compatibility.

If you think Sonic Youth is cool, and you think that they think that you're not that cool, does that mean everything to you?

I have seen dozens if not hundreds of users complaining about the new taste o meter but no one saying it's an improvement and last.fm seems to not give a shit about it. They haven't even commented on the general perception (link please if I'm wrong).

I really can't believe how anyone could appreciate the new results and apparently no one does but at last.fm a whole bunch of people, people who are not like usual users using this service besides several other internet sites but have it as their profession (!), are apparently very content with it cause nothing has noticably changed in the past weeks. Probably they'll ignore my post as all the others but I'll mention it here nonetheless:

I have very high compatibility with some guys I'm sharing one or two artists with. There is one person I share two artists in common. One of them she has scrobbled exactly once, the other one twice... We have high compatibility! Not to mention that the artist she has scrobbled twice is not even the same I'm listening to, they just share the same name, I'm aware that they're working on such cases but I bet in the end of 2009 they still won't have found a way to separate such bands. Whatever, we listen to completely different genres, we have two artists in common from that she has scrobbled hardly anything, it just appeared on the radio station accidently. We have a completely different taste in music like it hardly couldn't be more different and we have high compatibility?? Sorry last.fm, but even a teenager programming from time to time as their hobby could do this better. This is just shit. There is not any aspect that could declare this as an improvement, this is just a very HUGE regression.

I haven't found anyone having low or medium with me, have these two states suddenly disappeared? Therefore I have lots of users who supposedly have super compatibility with me. You know what? I know most of the bands they have in their charts and I DON"T LIKE THEM. For 90% of them I wouldn't even say our taste in music is a little similar. This is just ridicolous, if you think this is an improvement than leave at least for the 99.99% of last.fm users who do not think so the decision if they want that new calculation to be displayed or the old one. Thank you.

  • I agree with previous posters, this is really horrible, I used to find people who I had medium or low with and take artists they liked to expand my music taste and that's just not possible now that i'm having super with almost everyone. This needs to be sorted out!

one day we will be the king & queen on all i see
  • it's true that the old way was frustrating because i couldn't be high with anyone who didnt have my top few artists in common, but now it is waaay too lenient. i wish they could settle for somthing more in between the two extremes.

I like that unknown artists are more often on the taste-o-meter rating now though sometimes the rating should be lower. But I think it's accurate, and works better for open-minded listeners rather than closed-minded.
