Missing tracks! MANY missing tracks!

  • Same happened to Porcupine Tree's Lightbulb Sun, Stupid Dream and Nil Recurring EP, see http://www.last.fm/forum/21713/_/435079. My guess was that they were disappeared due to the change to the new version (in the old they were still there, in the new sudenly gone). I hope they will return...

The new last.fm is up. Could you please solve the problem of missing tracks?

But yeah, you know what's the paradox? That when you look at an artist page in beta version you see all the tracks are streamable.
Looks like all the supposedly "streameable"* tracks that were on the formerly-beta-now-live site has been taken down. Feels like the deletion is a lot more thorough now compared to the earlier one.

*I noticed that these tracks never played on any of my radio stations, library or recommendations on the new last.fm.

Yeah, I noticed that they have been deleted. I thought that something moved on, but the problem is standing still.

I don't want to read 12 pages of postings concerning the topic "Missing tracks..."! ;-)

So would there some of the regular posters please be so kind to let me know the cause of these "MANY missing tracks" and if there was an official statement from Last.fm about it?

So the main cause of the "missing tracks mistery" seems to be the Warner/Last.FM struggle? Am i right?

But what about the other missing tracks by artists who are not at the Warner labels? Any Last.fm replies about these too?

I thought they were just server issues or admin - ie tracks were pulled by artists or labels but no one cleaned up the site, so they appear to be streamable but they no longer are.

Also, don't forget, data is all over the shop whilst we're in transition, so let's wait for things to settle down, then we'll have a clearer picture.

    More Beggar's Banquet?

How many major label streamables would you give for one from Beggar's Banquet? - Ian

Beggars is certainly my most missed content, I'd give up all the full streamable tracks just to have them back on the radio.

I miss streamables from Beggars too. Belle & Sebastian, The Strokes, Babyshambvles, Sufjan Stevens, The Libertines, Cat Power, Interpol...

  • Did Rough Trade ever have music on here, I only joined in May so I'm not sure about what was removed and what has never been added in the first place

Ian. Coldplay has only 9 tracks streamable left. Some days ago only their newest album was missing.

    Yep! Thus, not unstreamable.

I think, EMI are trying to tease sycophants into parting with money :D Ian

Paul - It seems like you're trying to ask a "what" question and your fingers slipped, causing you to type "why". Degrease your keyboard!

    1. I don't, generally. I listen to a lot of PTTs
    2. Discovery
    3. I'd need about two Terra-bytes to rip all my CDs & vinyl to
    4. If I was to devote time to a two Terra-byte back-up solution and all that ripping, I'd have less time to write viruses designed to blow-up the computers of folk who're stupid enough to load iTune$ instead of something Open Source.

Sound like an answer to what you might've really been asking? - Ian

you in a bad mood? :P

I hate all those open source alternatives. Love my iTunes. It works.

Back on topic - Paul, I have my own collection, sure, but Last.fm's library is a wonderful thing to dive into. I adore my themed tag radios, I listen to them daily. I have created tailor-made tag radios for some of my groups, with certain criteria specifically in mind.

  • Warner have removed more of their stuff today as well, don't they all realise that people discover them on here, the most popular Super Furry Animals track of the week is the only streamable one

  • Madonna, Metallica, Led Zepplin, Neil Young, some of REM and Green Day all gone today, those are the ones I know about.
