    Mars Volta

Hey - are my "The Mars Volta" tracks going to permanently separated into "Mars Volta" and "The Mars Volta" tracks now? Can I fix that somehow, my Mars Volta scrobbles are about 5 years old and I thought they'd been autocorrected permanently...

  • They are two separate bands, so yes they will be separated from now on.

I'd recommend you use the Suggest a Correction link on the track pages to auto-correct to correct track pages.

  • Just noticed the change, thanks a lot Knapster :)

The situation with Mars Volta / The Mars Volta presents something of a dilemma, similar to the one with The Scorpions / Scorpions. In both cases, the second is the correct, official name of the well-known act, the first is often used in practice to refer to the second act but is actually the proper name of a different, lesser known act. Both of these also have the added complication that has albums (which supposedly come from artist or label affiliated sources) by the second artist under the first name.

This is one of the situations that would be best dealt with by implementing autocorrection of the artist at the track level. Has that been implemented, by the way (for a long time it hadn't been)?

  • You can correct tracks yes, however it'll make a mess of your library as we don't currently do album corrections. Therefore you'll end up with albums by the artist under the correct and incorrect spelling.

All right, if we're going to talk about autocorrections at the track level, there's one that's been bugging me for a long time.

Can you please fix it so that Strauss - Also Sprach Zarathustra autocorrects to Richard Strauss - Also Sprach Zarathustra? Currently it appears that anything scrobbled to Strauss gets autocorrected to Johann Strauss II, which it really shouldn't when there are two classical composers as highly notable as these two who share the same surname (unlike the situation with Bach or Mozart, both of which are the surnames of multiple classical composers but where one is clearly much more notable than any of the others to the extent that an autocorrection is justifiable). There are other Richard Strauss compositions that should get a similar track-level autocorrection but that one is by far the most popular and well known.

Further complicating the Strauss situation is that there is also a Japanese electronic musician who goes by that name.

  • Stranger by Trampled by Turtles autocorrects incorrectly to Strangler. Suggested correction but nothing happened.
^even the band's official page says so!

It looks like Musicbrainz has it wrong - see Since takes after Musicbrainz for a lot of its information, I'd recommend submitting a correction to Musicbrainz, and if it doesn't get voted down, it should eventually get propagated back to

  • Since this seems to be the fashion, I'll add one here as well: (Azeri pop singer, the one in my library) autocorrects to (one of a number of hipster-y acts from Western Europe). It seems as though a number of the listeners to one of the latter bands weren't adding the tilde to their tags and then trying to get an autocorrection.

  • thank you for fixing the tag. I tested it out using the incorrect name and it automatically changed it. Thanks a bunch!

    Correcting (Mars Volta) tracks

How long does it take for requested corrections to process? Do we need to wait for people to vote for corrections - or couldn't an admin just turn on the autocorrect for all of the "The Mars Volta" tracks now?

  • Reported on the Russian forum, music uploaded to the page Monomo is blighted by incorrect autocorrect to Mondomo.

A few new reports of different, similarly-named artists where one autocorrects to the other:

One user reported Katie Herzog / Katie Herzig but I was unable to determine whether they are supposed to be different artists or the same artist allegedly autocorrecting in the wrong direction.

Also notable is that Le Roux, LeRoux, and Louisiana's Leroux are all name variations of the same artist. "Le Roux" has in the past incorrectly autocorrected to La Roux, who is a different artist; it doesn't currently but does show "La Roux" as an alternate spelling (incorrectly, since they are different artists). "Le Roux" currently has the most scrobbles but the available websites (including the artist's official homepage) suggest that it should be "LeRoux".

  • Those should be correct now. :)

    Shelly Phillips

I just want to say, that there's a incorrect autocorrection:

The song "Astronautenlied" is from Shelly Phillips - and the autocorrection changes it in Shelley Phillips, which is wrong!

    Check it out on

    Thanks a lot
