The Bramfield Festival will rise for its forth year on June 20th! Set in a beautiful part of the Hertfordshire countryside with 20 bands over 2 stages, organic food, bars, stalls and the mandatory bouncy castle that should be avoided after 8 pints of stout.
FANCY DRESS - We know how some of you love a bit of dressing up, and the theme we’re going for is BRITISH ECCENTRICS! Think Roald Dahl, Steptoe, Withnail, Kate Bush, Pearly Kings & Queens, Magical Mystery Tour, League of Gentlemen.
HOW DO I GET THERE?
Hertford North station is 2 miles from the site, Hertford East an extra half-mile. Both these stations have texi ranks and it costs about £7. If coming from London, there’s trains regularly from Kings Cross, Finsbury Park, Liverpool Street, Hackney Downs, Tottenham Hale. Trains also from Welwyn and Stevenage. MUSIC!
So far we have confirmed
BENNY GALLAGHER - http://www.myspace.com/gallagherandlyleofficial
Benny is the writer of such classics as I Wanna Stay With You and Heart On My Sleeve, Benny has had his songs covered by Eric Clapton, The Zombies, Bryan Ferry and that great british eccentric Ringo Starr.
CHRIS T-T http://www.christt.com
This year sees Chris return to Bramfield for the third year running, this year armed with only his acoustic. Tales of giraffes, credit crunch blues and foxhunting. Totally topical, as the lilt man would say.
CLIENT (Sarah Blackwood DJ set)
Sarah of Client and Dubstar fame will be spinning tunes throughout the day when the bands are changing over.
DOWNEASTER - http://www.myspace.com/downeastermusic
Since the untimely demise of Do Me Bad Things, Nicolai Prowse has been popping up here and there with his new songs like at Bramfield 2007. Back with his new band, expect new moves and smooth grooves
GIDEON CONN - http://www.myspace.com/gideonconn
Having left last years audience smitten, Gideon and his band return with their totally unique brand of AntilFolkIndieFunk.
GUILDEAN GANG - http://www.myspace.com/guildeangang
Epic experimentalists from Bedfordshire, Guildean Gang recently released their debut single Dennis Bergkamp, which leads us nicely onto…
IVAN CAMPO - http://ivancampo.net/
Preston based serial instrument swappers named after the legendary Spanish footballer, Ivan Campo make music that is equal parts film noir and white album.
MARY EPWORTH AND THE JUBILEE BAND - http://www.myspace.com/maryepworth
Having first encounted Mary singing with The Broken Family Band, we were pleasantly surprised to hear that she also produces pastoral psych-folk of the highest order and has a guitar playing horse.
THE OVERTURES - http://www.theovertures.com
Now in their 20th year, The Overtures are widely recognised as being the greatest 60’s band in the world. If you’re after proof, ask Lulu, Elton or Jagger.
PIPPA DRYSDALE - http://www.myspace.com/pippadrysdale
Pippa Drysdale is a folk-pop singer songwriter with a love for all things music. She was born in Austrailia, lived in New York and currently resides in London where she spends her time playing gigs and festivals.
THE TAUNTS - http://www.myspace.com/thetaunts
Opening the main stage are these punky young upstarts from Harlow who like to do things differently.
TALK TO ANGELS - http://www.myspace.com/talktoangels
The best thing to come out of Bradford since Omar Khan’s, TTA are an energetic emo tinged rock band with a penchant for Cilla Black.
THE THIRST - http://www.myspace.com/thethirstrockband
Taking in the greatest british indie music of the last 30 years and then sounding like none of it, The Thirst are the real deal. Say no more.
TOM WILLIAMS AND THE BOAT - http://www.tomwilliamsandtheboat.co.uk
Tunbridge Wells may seem like an unlikely place for a pop-folk sextet to spring from, but Tom Williams has been planning for the flood with a series of sold out EP’s and radio sessions with Huw Stephens.
SANDRA & THE MEMORY MACHINE - http://www.myspace.com/sandrathememorymachine
One of the most instinctive performers we’ve ever seen, Sandra Marinovich is a ukulele toting, cymbal smashing futurefolk pioneer.
SAVANTS - http://www.myspace.com/wearesavants
They have two singers. They make noise. Lots of it. They get people moving. They are SAVANTS.
