Wacken Open Air 2009: The 20th Anniversary - SOLD OUT!

Wacken has been known to be the biggest metal festival in Europa (and even the world) for quite some years, and the 2009 edition will go into history as the best days in the history of metal. Even though hell will only be unleashed in some 90 days, every metalhead alive is counting the days for this special event. Wacken, it’s time to rock!


Wacken staat al jaren bekend als het grootste metalfestival in Europa (en zelfs de wereld). De 20ste editie zal meer dan waarschijnlijk de geschiedenis in gaan als het beste evenement in de geschiedenis van metal. Ook al zijn er nog 90 dagen te gaan vooraleer de poorten naar de hel worden geopend, elke metalhead telt nu al af naar dit festival. Wacken, it’s time to rock!

Wacken est connu comme le festival metal le plus grand en Europe (et même dans le monde entier). Cette 20ième édition entrera probablement dans l’histoire de metal comme étant les meilleurs jours du métal. Même a plus de 90 jours avant l’enfer sur terre, chaque metalhead vivant commence a compter. Wacken, it’s time to rock!

    I've gone to Wacken for three years in a row, each time being better and better in some ways, and more ridiculous in others. I agree wholeheartedly with NoHumanBeing and even though I had a good time, I won't go to this festival again.     I was in Wacken this year and 2007 but I don't think I will be next year. It's just very far from where I live (Augsburg, Germany), it's very expensive (135 € ticket), it's overcrowded (80.000 - 100.000 visitors), it's sold out too early (December 2008 for this year) and it took ages until the bands were announced. I think I'm giving Summer Breeze a chance. It's about half the size (~ 40.000 visitors), about half the ticket price (70 € this year for a ticket) has as many bands playing (~ 80 bands), usually features very excellent acts and is much closer to where I live. ;-) Wacken had some very good bands in the years 2007 and 2009, especially Enslaved which were the best act in both years imho. But Summer Breeze usually features great bands as well.
