Modern Sky Festival - Haidian Park, Beijing, China - October 2-4, 2007 Featuring The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, DJ’s Tim Goldsworthy and Tim Sweeney (DFA Records), and 120 of China’s best independent artists.
Modern Sky Entertainment, home to China’s biggest and most renowned independent record label Modern Sky, is hosting the first annual Modern Sky Festival in Haidian Park, Beijing, China during October 2nd -4th, 2007. Featuring 4 stages of music from over 120 bands, the festival commemorates 10 years and nearly 100 releases of great independent music from Modern Sky. Western artists, including DJs Tim Goldsworthy and Tim Sweeney (DFA Records), American Modern Sky artist ArmsAnd Legs (Scott Daly), and festival headliners The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, are set to perform alongside Chinese heavyweights New Pants, Rebuilding The Rights Of Statues, P.K. 14, Queen Sea Big Shark, and others.
Modern Sky founder/ artist/ musician Shen Lihui is producing the Modern Sky Festival as way of giving back to the kids that have supported the label and the Chinese music scene over the years. Ticket prices are around $15 for a 3-day pass.
In addition to 4 stages of music, the Modern Sky Festival will also feature a large art gallery space where local artists are provided with booths to freely display their art, a photo exhibition area and amateur photo competition sponsored by classic Russian camera manufacturer LOMO, a film exhibit featuring films by Chinese independent directors (including esteemed director Jia Zhangke) and a short film competition for kids, and the "Music Plus Love" exhibit dedicated to promoting children’s charities "Operation Blessing" and "China AIDS Orphan Fund".
