With great pleasure, “Le Tigre Musical” announces its first club festival This is Tigerr Fest #1 which will take place from 24th to 30th of September 2012.
Leading Swiss Festival for New Artists: From Geneva to St. Gallen
When broken down into mere figures, the festival features around 40 international and national music acts, playing in 18 different venues, spread over 9 different cities all across Switzerland. In a rotating system, the presented artists will play in different cities, adding up to around 95 concerts during that week in total.
The festival emerged out of the concert series, “This is Tigerr”; promoted by Just Because for three years, that brought acts such as Selah Sue, James Blake, Anna Calvi, Is Tropical, or more recently François & The Atlas Mountains, breaking act Alt-J and many more, who were about to become successful afterwards, for the first time to Switzerland.
100% First Time in Town
“This is Tigerr Fest” will only host artists that play for the first time in each respective city - and for many of the international bands, it will be their first Swiss show altogether.
Line-Up
The full line-up will be revealed bit by bit over the next weeks. To start with, The Tigerr is thrilled to announce and introduce the first participating acts:
With all kind of acts playing the festival, the stylistic variety ranges from the highly technologized live-show of electro-crossover DJ Don Rimini to the earthen and intimate growling of folk singer Ben Caplan.
Folk-Pop, Folk and Singer-Songwriter are one of the thematic priority; there’s the charming and witty three-piece We Were Evergreen hailing from France, Canadian Ben Caplan, a true force of nature, or Dutch Blaudzun whose falsetto occasionally reminds of Antony Hagerty. With 23 years old young-star Benjamin Francis Leftwich you will also find a classic Singer-Songwriter on the bill.
Furthermore you’ll find Cold Specks, another Canadian as well as Salfordian Ren Harvieu in the line-up - the latter a mere 21 years old and the Benjamin of the festival family, so far ;-).
The two singers may share the banner of „Soul Music“- yet their sound could not be more different. On the one hand there are Cold Specks’ sparingly instrumented and delicate songs, contrasted by the severity of her intensely fatalistic and dark lyrics. The singer herself likes to call her version of the genre „Doom-Soul“. While on the other hand there’s soul sirene Ren Harvieu; her musical inspirations are sourced in 60’s pop and the string-soaked white soul of the likes of Dusty Springfield.
The Tigerr won’t miss out on Indie-Rock and -Pop. These three bands share a penchant for synth tunes, nevertheless their sounds differ greatly; while the psychedelic, post-punk inspired Krautpop of London’s TOY oozes grit and gloom, the uplifting and bubbly spirits of Great Mountain Fire instantly make your feet do a playful silly little dance. Additionally there’s Parisian band Saint Michel bringing some vigorous yet spheric French Synth-Pop reminiscent of Air, Daft Punk or Phoenix. You’re not dancing? Check your boots, they may have been super-glued to the floor.
Antithetically to the latter, The Magnetic North - new project of singer Erland Cooper (Erland and The Carnival), Simon Tong (The Verve, The Good, The Bad & The Queen) and multi-instrumentalist and singer Hannah Peel - is of haunting and yet subtle beauty and surely one of this year’s biggest surprises. Dedicated to and inspired by the mythology of the Scottish Orkney Islands, the album is a collection of timeless songs which, rather than being of any genre, create a soundtrack mirroring the unique bleak and windswept aesthetic of Orkney’s landscapes. This musically complex album will be transformed into a mesmerising live-show, adding three string players to the line-up.
As for the rest of the program, it will be revealed gradually in the coming weeks… Keep your eyes open!
