• Clowns and legends

Fri 13 Jul – Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival 2012

All in all, I'd describe Mayhem as a collection of clowns and legends. It is due to the sheer lack of quality of the former that I solely went to see the latter, i.e. Motorhead, Anthrax and Slayer (in that order).
I also wouldn't've bothered with a city as uneventful as Tampa had it not fit well into my vacation plans, but I digress...
Motorhead I went to see and see them I did, up and close. Their management provided the best VIP experience I've enjoyed so far. The staff are as genuine as the band themselves, who, unless someone's already proverbially crapped in their drink, take their time to sign whatever, greet everyone and answer the odd question as willingly as they sit for interviews.
Their set, for which the VIPs were invited to experience the music from stage right, was a well chosen sequence of some of the best Motorhead tunes, new and old. The missing ingredient was a set length worthy of their stature. You don't give devil worshippers more time than walking legends.
