Thursday at Happynovisad brings two intriguing acts from the neighboring countries. Strahil Velcev, aka KiNK is an innovative and uncompromising producer, enchanting live performer from Bulgaria who incorporates the best of electronic music into his sets.
Searching ofr a new way of presenting his music, KiNK formed a live set full of dusty analogue gadgets and modern digital technology. Next to him, the audience will be enjoying Kozmin Nikolae, a.k.a. Cosmin TRG from Romania, a producer reputed for his unpredictive sound, as well as the choice of labels to release for: Rush Hour, Bpitch Control, Hessle Audio… He is the favourite of trend-setting media like DJ Mag, Resident Advisor or Pitchfork Media, the man who performs at the most progressive music festivals and clubs around Europe, this summer also performs at Exit.
Friday is the day when we present the British label Swamp 81, named by South London riots back in the 1980’s. This label is run by Loefah, one of the most influential dubstep performers. Alongside him, British electro and bass representative Boddika is to shake it up a bit more. This man makes a half of Instra:mental, named by the key villain from the Movie Robocop that more than aptly describes him – dark and tense, retro yet futuristic. Journalists struggle to determine his music direction: is it electro, is it techno? He does not dignify them with an answer, because he doesn’t lets himself be limited by them. He’s a great fan of analogue instruments and effects, so his live set includes gadgets you can rarely find even in studios. Joining these names is DJ Oneman, said to have reinvented old school garage by taking the fine art of deejaying on to a higher level, renovating 2spet garage and mixing it with dubstep, grime and many other directions. The host of this whole evening will be Swamp 81 resident, MC Chunky.
As stated in Guardian, at the moment, dance music is impossible to define, but growing Night Slugs empire is nonetheless the head of this flock. And Happynovisad Saturday will present this head up close. The star of the night is Girl Unit, who combines house beats, dirty southern instrumentals, Detroit and Chicago classics, raw Anerican tracks, tracks made by less famous British producers, all that and his own production, and Night Slugs materials. Bok Bok comes as a part of underground elite. He claims to nourish a direction mostly influenced by grime, but since broadening one’s mind is inevitable, he allowed for constant innovation and and combination of the most varied genres to bring him where he is today. Jam City discovered grime in 2003, and his perception of music changed completely. He sounded extraterrestrial, yet with an Earthly club energy. A couple of years later, he starts recording his own tracks and edits, and the rest is history. He renders his romantic house-grind combination ideal for a club, a jeep drive, but also a night stroll in an aqua park.
American representatives own Sunday at Happynovisad. Nosaj Thing is doubtlessly among the best music modulators in LA at the moment, and what he brings to Novi Sad is Nosaj Thing Visual Show, a mind-blowing audio and visual performance, fought for by the biggest festival stage this summer. A legend and a great underground electronic visionary performing as Photek, a man who has been actively releasing since ’94, always pushing forward with his music, revealing new creative options for other producers. He will showcase his new sound, inspired by spiky motifs and ice-cold atmosphere of his tracks like ‘Seven Samurai’ and ‘Hidden Camera’.
