MELODICA ACOUSTIC FESTIVAL

The 1ST Melodica Acoustic Festival in Berlin takes place on the 9th & 10th of October. It starts 4 pm on both days. The entry is free.

What is MELODICA?

It’s an acoustic music festival for songwriters & folk musicians, with the mission statement to develop, celebrate and create synergy within and between local music communities worldwide.

Founded 2007 by Pete Uhlenbruch in Melbourne (AUS), it’s now located as well in Hamburg (GER), Rejkjavik (ICE), Brighton (UK) & Aarhus (DK).

In October it will run for the 1st time in Berlin.

PHILOSOPHY?

The Festival celebrates local music scenes around the world. Melodica offers an invaluable platform for talented newcomers to connect, network and create new relationships.

An event BY ARTISTS FOR ARTISTS, it’s organized and carried by ambassadors of the local music scenes, who invite mainly local people to play, as well as national & international guests.

Contrary to the more distanced or impersonal vibes at a normal concert, club or a big festival ground, MELODICA exists in cafés and intimate venues with coffee/food facilities, that provide a friendly familiar atmosphere and encourage the artists to network and to support each other in a spirit of community.

An article in the German „Rolling Stone“ issue tried to picture the ambience of Melodica and coined the term of „COFFEEHOUSE FOLK“ that was soon adapted by the community to describe their event.

To symbolize this community-oriented and hospitable nature the event runs on a DONATION policy. The entry is for free, but the audience is asked to show their appreciation with donations. The money will be mainly used to pay the travel costs of the international artists.
