The Amsterdam Cello Biennale is a cello festival that is held every two years, providing the ultimate meeting place and source of inspiration for cellists and other music lovers from all over the world.
During the previous editions of the Biennale, numerous Dutch and international master cellists treated audiences to an extraordinarily rich variety of musical styles and talents.
The National Cello Competition is a significant and inspiring part of the Biennale. The jury panel is made up of a number of internationally renowned cellists, who will also give performances and masterclasses during the Biennale.
The Biennale will offer music lovers diverse opportunities for passive and active participation in music of all forms and styles, with the cello as focal point. The huge degree of public interest in the previous editions of the Biennale is a testimony to the success of this combination. The festival attracted an overwhelming amount of attention from the written press, radio and television.
The Amsterdam Cello Biennale will take place in the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in Amsterdam. Besides the many concerts, masterclasses and workshops riveting audiences in the concert halls, the presence of cello makers and bow makers, publishers and information stalls will transform the foyer of the Muziekgebouw into a meeting place pervaded by a fantastic festival atmosphere.
