no-surprises i can recommend this great dissertation written by caroline polk o'meara on new york downtown music (bush tetras, glenn branca, sonic youth, some hip-hop stuff), it's available on proquest. the second best concert for me: PERE UBU, unfortunatelly i've seen only like half of the whole gig because i wanted to catch arto. clashes this year were the worst!

wantyoutoneedme again, i can only make [2]. you could smell some genius at Suicide or Seefeel, I nearly died at Galaxie 500. But it's really nowhere close to what GB Ensemble did to me. I'm flipping again through this 'no wave' book co-written by Thurston Moore and Byron Coley now. Most flyers and posters reprints seem to be from Glenn's collection. Shame Arto Lindsay and John Cale didn't match up to. Weren't bad but far from.

NietzcheGuevara the battles set fucked with my head so much - hadn't really heard the new album, was on a notable psychedelic substance and just remained bewildered.., my brain felt like it was being twisted apart, those drums were so fucking tight and I've never heard discordance align with pop style melodies quite like it. definitely a highlight of the weekend. they will probably just play post-tyondai stuff now maybe, or at least whilst the new album is circulating. explosions in the sky, mogwai, caribou (at poble espanyol) and baths were all worth the trip.

flynnduism @Carca - Battles were totally amazing. New album sounds incredible. I'd seen them so many times as a 4 piece, I expected disappointment with a 3 piece; but somehow it was better than ever. It makes me sad to think that they will not be playing old songs; so much landmark music will be lost - though I can understand why they choose to do so. @The_Cloud - that's very sad to hear about the security. I found the PS staff / security to be a million times friendlier and more helpful than any other festival I've been to. I hope you report your problems to the festival organisers, it's awful that your friends were attacked.
