I would've killed at least five poor people or chopped of my left leg to see this... FFS 89% compatibility rating.

Excuse me, why isn't Emperor in the connected artists? :-)

Here's some self-indulgence for ya: Intelligent Metal

But yeah, either way. I respect all of your opinions & what not :) But I'm not a fan of Opeth...well not a big fan, I'm still going to give them a go at Bloodstock.

I'm not so many people though :)

With the exception of deliberately commercial music then surely all music is written self indulgently. That is to say that people write the music for themselves. If it is meant as a criticism then it makes no sense - it cannot be purely self indulgent if it appeals to so many people.

Man, that was some self-indulgent goodness. :-)

"its self indulgent...I mean thats kind of the point isnt it?" - Mmyep pretty much :) though I am quite picky about progressive music, mhmm :P

Ach....its just a word and just your opinion.... the great joy about music is that its very much a subjective love. You might be missing the point slightly....I love Progressive Rock/Music - *because* its self indulgent...I mean thats kind of the point isnt it? :)))

I use the word pretentious because progressive music is usually self-indulgent.

So many people use the word pretentious to label any music that's a bit different. I used to when I was younger but I kept finding that those I'd previously called pretentious later became some of my all time favourites.

Honestly I used to be a massive fan, After Deliverance I kind of lost interest. Blackwater Park is a masterpiece though. It is a dangerous discussion due to the passionate fans...Personally my highlight of the weekend was Down or High on Fire :)

I mean I try and listen to Opeth but they always have something in each of their songs that I don't like. Half of it's always really good and the rest is not my thing.

"Dangerous discussion" - Hardly, I'm not quite sure why people are so touchy about Opeth, they're talented musicians but they don't do anything for me. It's interesting how they have fans who worship them as Gods and then others who can't stand them...I'm just on the fence about them

@PootyMunster13 getting yourself into a bit of a dangerous discussion today. I'd say that the parts that you are discussing are what makes opeth a stand out band...the jazz of it all! Loved them since BWP but that was the first time I've seen them live. Great set.

Wish I'd only bought a Sunday ticket as Saturday was a bit of a letdown, rescued only by Transatlantic. On the Sunday, Bonamassa, Hackett, Marillion and ELP were all ace. The lineup just seemed like a weird mix to me, even though I'd class myself as a Prog-Metal and Classic Rock fan. Hope next year's lineup is better.

I don't understand why Opeth are popular either... Don't get me wrong, I love Opeth, but I would take Agalloch over Opeth anyday of the week... Whatever... Opeth were fucking great, as expected. Saxon were amazing as well. Great festival, we need more events like this one. Classic rock, metal and prog - real music, not some trendy bullshit -.-

Brilliant....only 2nd to my one Glasto experience. Highlights: the power & skill of Opeth, Focus (who blew everyone away on the prog stage) except for Uriah Heep. Oh and ZZTop and ELP were very good too...in fact the only let-down band for me was Heaven&Hell, Iommi didnt seem interested and they just bored me.(ps I loved Dio).....and big thanks to Elke too !
