  • Soundwave 2010, my thoughts!

    2 Mar 2010, 11:13 by colourofsleep

    Fri 26 Feb – Soundwave 2010

The lineups for this rock/metal/punk festival have always impressed me. There's never really been much that floats my boat enough for me attend in the past, but I always though that Soundwave always managed to get a lot of great acts for the sort of festival that it was. Anyway, this year a lot of the acts really impressed, so I bought a ticket and was not disappointed by a great day of music.

The first band I heard on the day was Canada's The Creepshow, who opened proceedings on Stage 1 (there was a band before them on Stage 2, a last minute replacement for Closure in Moscow I guess, but nobody knew who they were). I didn't actually see The Creepshow, as I was standing on the Stage 2 side for a good spot for Sunny Day Real Estate, but of course because of the typical two-mainstage festival setup, I did hear all their set. They seemed pretty interesting, playing some catchy female-fronted psychobilly that seemed to get their fans on the other side of the…

    SOUNDWAVE
Friday 26th of February, 2010 – Melbourne Showgrounds, Melbourne.

When I arrived to the venue, there were massive lines everywhere. There was never a problem with the lines with the last few Soundwave’s that I have attended, although with the epic line-up for Soundwave 2010 (such as Faith No More, Placebo, Janes Addiction, A.F.I, and others) it has brought a lot of newcomers to the festival. I purchased a two-dollar ticket to attend an Enter Shikari meet and greet later that day, what used to take five minutes to buy a ticket, took over thirty minutes this year.

    Gallows: 12:40PM-1:20PM (Stage 5)
    Watched: ALL OF SET
    Setlist:(Not In Order, Not Complete)
    Riverbed
    Dread the Night
    'Melbourne' Is the Reason
    Abandon Ship
    Come Friendly Bombs
    Misery
    Belly of a Shark
    Orchestra of Wolves

The stage 5/6 hall was packed out for UK’s Gallows. I was never a big fan of their music, but Frank Carter made their live performance one to remember. …

    Fri 26 Feb – Soundwave 2010
Closure in Moscow had their times screwed up.
We turned up at the right stage, at the right time, but instead, the Creepshow were playing on their stage. WHY?
    Disappointed to have missed them.

    Alexisonfire were AMAZING!
Dallas Green struggled a bit to sing in time though. But his voice was great anyway. George did a great job of screaming as usual.
The mosh at Alexisonfire was the best of the day. Too bad we had to leave cos we were going to faint if we didn't. It was so hot and we desperately needed water.

Paramore were the most disappointing of the day. The crowd sucked. I couldn't hear Hayley at all, so I wouldn't know if she sang well or not. They needed to blast it more.
Great choice of songs though. Couldn't have asked for better actually. Knew them all.

All Time Low were GREAT live! The bassist's hot pink guitar made my day. Alex and jack interacted with the crowd, making jokes and what not. …

    Fri 26 Feb – Soundwave 2010

I can't even explain this event in proper words, but it was AMAZING.
Faith No More were awesome, they are great live.
Escape the Fate, I got kicked in the face by a crowd surfer who came up behind me without notice as well as me running into mosh pit circles every time I turned around.
Paramore were one of my favorites, Haley Williams and her band are crazy live.
HIM & Taking Back Sunday had mad crowds,
I nearly went deaf at HIM and squashed @ the TBS mosh pit.
AFI, Anthrax, Isis and Jane's Addiction were good live too.

My mate ended up in hospital, and I thought my nose was broken.
I lost my boyfriend at one point, and didn't see one friend till the next day.
    FUNN.

Faith No More were amazing. Mike was a little angry with feedback issues onstage. This was evident when he threw the mic into the back of a stagehand.

Jane's Addiction were equally awesome. Perry Farrell is a suave performer.

Meshuggah were brutal. Tight, one of the best metal shows I've seen.

Rolo Tomassi were interesting. Great players and that chick can scream!

AFI was the worst shit I have ever heard. The singer was woeful. He couldn't hold a note.

Placebo were average. Amazing compared to AFI though.

Anvil were a novelty but ordinary.

Apart from that, I avoided all the terrible emo and awful pop punk shite. Which was most of the day. Thank fuck for Jane's Addiction and Faith No More.
