Although I had known that Big Star had reformed to release an album four years ago, I had little to no hope when I finally checked their last.fm page of seeing a gig outside of America let alone in London where I could see them. After months of listening, learning to play their songs and generally worshipping them it took me about 2 minutes to locate and buy a ticket for this event.
These days the band consist of Jon Auer (guitar/vocals) and Ken Stringfellow (bass/vocals) of The Posies alongisde the legendary Alex Chilton (guitar/vocals) and Jody Stephens (drums/vocals) from the original line up. Naturally, everyone has their doubts when a band reforms without 'crucial' key members (look at 'Thin Lizzy,') and I was no exception going into this gig. But what a fool I was - Auer and Stringfellow played like they were born to be in the band - which was a single organism, not just four musicians trying to make a living.
