O encontro de duas figuras já lendárias da experimentação artística, nomeadamente a sonora, unidos aqui pela dedicação ao violino. Tony Conrad é, para além de ícone do cinema experimental, um dos pioneiros do minimalismo norte-americano, tendo integrado no início dos anos 1960 o Theatre of Eternal Music (conhecido como Dream Syndicate) ao lado de La Monte Young, John Cale, Angus MacLise e Marian Zazeela. Desenvolveu uma exploração extensa do violino ao nível do timbre, da distorção e da dissonância focando o seu trabalho ao nível da microtonalidade, geralmente na forma de longas massas sonoras.
O violino foi também um dos primeiros instrumentos de eleição de Genesis P-Orridge, desde o tempo dos Throbbing Gristle, especialmente na variante eléctrica, transportando-o posteriormente para os seus vários projectos, entre os quais Psychic TV e Thee Majesty. O trabalho de P. Orridge tem sido tanto musical como sobre ideias de libertação de imposições normativas aos mais vários níveis, sejam eles música, comportamento ou sexualidade.
O primeiro encontro destes dois gigantes do experimentalismo teve lugar em Janeiro de 2009 na Issue Project Room em Nova Iorque, e tal como acontecerá em Serralves, contou com a colaboração do percussionista Morrison Edley dos PTV3 (a mais recente formação dos Psychic TV).

This is an encounter of two already legendary figures of artistic experimentation - namely sound experimentation - linked by a shared dedication to the violin. Besides being an icon of experimental cinema Tony Conrad is one of the pioneers of North American minimalism. At the onset of the 1960s he was a member of the Theatre of Eternal Music (known as Dream Syndicate) alongside La Monte Young, John Cale, Angus MacLise, and Marian Zazeela. Conrad developed an extensive exploration of the violin in terms of tone, distortion and dissonance. His work focused on micro-tonality, generally in the form of long masses of sound.
The violin, particularly the electric variant, was also one of the first instruments of choice for Genesis P-Orridge since the times of the Throbbing Gristle. The instrument would later carry him into several projects, such as Psychic TV and Thee Majesty. P. Orridge’s work has been both musical and ideological in its concern with liberation from different normative impositions in music, behaviour or sexuality.
The first encounter of these two giants of experimentalism took place in January 2009 at the Issue Project Room in New York and, as now in Serralves, they counted with the collaboration of percussionist Morrison Edley of PTV3 (the most recent line-up of Psychic TV).
