Of Montreal bring their consumate theatricality to the Shepherds Bush Empire this summer. Their songs soar and weave with energy and goodwill, daring anyone who hears them to walk away without a smile on their face. Listening to OF MONTREAL, you might think that singer Kevin Barnes is missing the angst gene. But the longer you listen, the more you start to realize that maybe missing the angst gene is a blessing. It allows Kevin to explore more fully his crazily creative ideas and to make wondrous music, drawing on influences from the Byrds or even the Mamas And The Papas; the group’s songs are all sweet pop ditties, as suitable for campfire-singing as stage performance.

yup, this show was amazing. thanks to the guys who got photos, balcony was no good for that. and yup, it was hard to hear the lyrics, which is a damn shame with OM - especially if you were with people who don't know them. anyway, were on top form - slightly weird how they don't interact with each other much, are they always playing kind of apart like that? i can give my ears a rest as don't see anything topping this one for a while :)

I feel as sick as a diseased, cancerous, swine flu-ridden parrot for missing this, even though I had tickets. Stupid work. Any signs they'll be back in the near future?

@anderaus I'm sad to say, there probably wasn't a sweet-spot regarding the sound. I was stood right at the front and I could barely hear Kevin's vocals. Le sigh... Still, they put on a ruddy good show and I got a box as a souvenir (woo-yay!)

My boots got awfully sticky, but I got a setlist and some confetti. I'd consider that an achievement. But either way after that I'm pretty sure that of Montreal releases hyper-potent endorphins which force the individual to release gametes all over the dancefloor.

It was Bat For Lashes "Daniel," a pretty fantastic cover of it too.

Did a lot of moving around during the gig and yeah, noticed that the sound wasn't really working, most of the time kevin's vocals were drowned out and at times he was having troubles singing in sync (they don't use monitors, good old fashion canal earphones). Anyway, the music and vibe was still all kinds of epic, here's some photos of the gig i took if you haven't already clicks on the photos bit at the top http://www.flickr.com/photos/crazybobbles/3722398402/

For those who wanted the setlist, it was as follows: Butt Bank, Nonpareil of Favor, Bunny Ain't No Kind of Rider, Id Engager, And I've Seen a Bloody Shadow, The Party's Crashing Us, Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse, October is Eternal, A Sentence of Sorts in Kongsvinger, Beware our Nubile Miscreants, then there were two songs I didn't know (but my setlist says they were called 'Daniel' and 'Metal Finds Troll'), For Our Elegant Caste, Touched Something's Hollow, An Eluardian Instance, Rapture Rapes the Muses, Wraith Pinned to the Mist, She's a Rejecter. Encore: Past is a Grotesque Animal.

Did any of you guys see the floor after the Gig finished? It was so sticky with lots of confeti and beer stains everywhere

Sound wasn't amazing but I thought it was perfectly alright. Really enjoyable evening. I'd also like to see a setlist if anyone could post it.

I have to agree about the sound... Certainly never heard it so bad at Shepherds Bush before. Still, fun show. Also, I enjoyed Local Natives.

I also agree about the sound. Slightly disappointing but didn't stop it from being an enjoyable night. Did anyone manage to get the set-list?

Glad you enjoyed it, MegatonShot! I tried moving around to find a sweet spot, but even right next to the sound board the vocals and guitars were pretty bad. I didn't try to make my way to the very front though. (And ok, I probably have been to some gigs with worse sound, especially on festivals, but the sound at Shepherds Bush is normally really, really good. It's probably one of my favourite venues in London, so I got very disappointed last night.)

I didn't notice about the sound either to be honest- did anyone notice that "Local Natives" had microphone feedback during their set; maybe that had something to do with it. I guess during both sets you could barley hear the lyrics because the drumming was too loud and the bass was turned up so high. Anyways I enjoyed it, and touched an actor with red glitter face

Didn't even notice that the sound was bad. And Anderaus, every gig you've been to must have had super super super quality sound then.

Sorry for being negative, but that was one of the worst sounding gigs I have ever been to. What on earth was the sound guy thinking? Usually the sound is awesome at Shepherds Bush, I can't believe they managed to screw it up like that. A shame for Of Montreal as well, they seemed to be in an excellent mood.

I agree with Megaton Shot- "Local Natives" were a crappy version of Fleet Foxes{except with drums}, however Of montreal were flippin' good- fanollappalooza set list as well !
