Crystal Antlers

‘Tentacles’, the hotly anticipated debut album from Crystal Antlers, will be released on April 6th (Europe) and April 7th (North America) via the stalwart indie label Touch and Go Records, home to CocoRosie, Ted Leo, The Jesus Lizard, and many others.

Recorded and mixed on 2” tape at San Francisco’s Closer Studios in the span of one sleepless week, Tentacles is a document of the Antlers’ vigorous work ethic and breathless vitality. As hinted at on last year’s EP, many of the tracks here touch on the fragility of nature and its destruction by humankind, all under a cloudburst of epic sound and energy.

Beyond the sonic expansion, the band itself has grown: original guitarist Errol Davis returned to the fold for Tentacles, bringing the personnel tally to one bass, two guitars, two drummers, and an organ. Davis will also be a part of the Antlers’ manic and massive live show, joining them on the road for the North American tour in March.

+ The Invisible

The Guardian have described The Invisible as “the best UK pop band we’ve heard in a very long time indeed”, and we’d be inclined to agree. Signed to Matthew Herbert’s impeccable Accidental Records imprint, the London-based trio are Dave Okumu, Leo Taylor and Tom Herbert (no relation), and have Zongamin, Gramme and Jade Fox on their various musical CVs. The Invisible’s music has attracted favourable comparisons with TV On The Radio, and it’s not hard to hear why: soulful vocals, complex, multi-layered arrangements and choppy guitars are the order of the day here.

+ Three Trapped Tigers

The first time we heard Three Trapped Tigers, we thought Christmas had come early. A Christmas that shoved the drugged-up, bastard child of Squarepusher’s ‘Big Loada’ and Jawbox’s ‘Scrapbook’ of fatal accidents down my chimney - barbequing its decadent, digital machinations on my open fire. Possibly the act fans of quirky, glitch-filled drum ‘n’ bass have been awaiting, this glorious, analogue, synth-led trio of tigers will have you crying into your spilt milk in 2009. If you order their thumping, melodious EP now, you will be one of the few to be ahead of the game. Dischord + Warp = a listener’s dream come true.
