Alpines’ ‘Early Hours’ EP follows the release of two successful singles this year " ‘Cocoon’ and ‘Empire’ " that have seen them garner support from Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw, Zane Lowe and Annie Mac as well as Pitchfork and Abeano. They also enjoyed critical acclaim earlier this year when they collaborated with Maya Jane Coles, Craze + Hoax (who co-wrote ‘Heaven’ and produced ‘Next To Me’ for Emile Sandé) and Dark Sky.
Their blend of pop and avant garde influences have earned them comparisons with familiar names from electronica, such as Burial and Portishead - but the truth is that the music is unfamiliar. Florence Welch, who describes them as, “the xx crossed with Kate Bush”, has shown continued support, and in March honoured the duo by asking them to open for her at Alexandra Palace, which has been their biggest show to date.
