New Edition, Salt-N-Pepa, and El DeBarge hit the heart of beautiful Fairmount Park for one show-stopping night of R&B music.
New Edition started out singing together in elementary school. Now 20 years later they are on the verge of releasing the 8th album, One Love. New Edition is known for their smash hits “Candy Girl”, “Cool it Now”, “Mr. Telephone Man” and more. They were the progenitors of the boy band era in the 80’s and 90’s and established much of the ground work for the style of music known as “New Jack Swing”. In their new album they have matured musical while still retaining their classic New Edition sound.
Salt-N-Pepa was the first all-female rapping crew to hit the hip-hop music scene, and they did so with a vengeance. Their first single “The Showstopper” became a fast R&B hit and they continued to mark their career with the many industry firsts they achieved: They were the first female rappers to receive a Grammy Award, as well as one of the few rapper groups to perform on Oprah. Though disbanded for a short period Salt-N-Pepa reunited in 2007 to once again become the “Queens of Hip-Hop” and continue to have sold out shows across America.
Most known for his hits “Rhythm of the Night,” and “Who's Holding Donna Now”, El DeBarge has returned to the music scene to continue contributing his distinctive voice to R&B music. After a triumphant appearance at the 2010 BET awards, El DeBarge began working on his newest album, Second Chance which he says is his, “Spiritual memoir, my mental DNA.” With this extraordinary album El DeBarge is looking forward to this new era in his musical career.
