Beck Goldsmith 'Hollows For Sorrows' Album Launch

Beck Goldsmith’s soundscape is uncharacteristic of the traditional singer-songwriter. Growling textures, shifting time signatures and instrumental peculiarities all create an atmospheric backdrop to Beck’s stark lyrics and haunting voice.

After releasing her first album independently, Beck gained distribution through Proper and built up a live following across the UK, sharing the stage with artists such as Fionn Regan, Teddy Thompson and Karine Polwart. A drive to experiment and innovate led to collaborations with like-minded musicians, and culminated in an EP of melody-driven songs with a wholly darker edge (Waxwing).

Hailing from Nottingham and now based in the South West, Beck de-camped to a Normandy farmhouse to create her latest album Hollows for Sorrows with (now husband) Simon Davidson. Enlisting the talents of Jon Dix (Love Ends Disaster!/Moscow Youth Cult/Moscow Disko Music) for mixing, mastering and wonky flourishes, the album draws its influences from an eclectic mix of folk, indie and shoegaze.

The result is a combination of classic songwriting sensibilities and the creepy styling of 70s cinema. Tracks include ‘Stella’s Telescope’ (written in the back of a silver transit van) and ‘The Watchers’ (selected to appear in a Canadian horror film this Autumn).
