Since its inception in 2004 Shogun Audio has gone on to become one of the most essential labels in dance music today.
Driven by it’s founders Friction and production partner K-Tee the Shogun brand has developed in such a way that it is now an all-encompassing drum and bass juggernaut releasing anything from the deep and minimal sounds of Icicle to the dirty tech grooves of Break and the tear-out party anthems of Spor and indeed Friction & K-Tee themselves.
We welcome 3 of Shoguns heavyweight acts ICICLE, ALIX PEREZ & SPECTRASOUL.
Icicle aka Jeroen Snik was born & raised in Holland. At the Age of 8 Icicle first started playing piano and soon got onto the drum kit. It wasn’t long until he started making beats using an old school midi set-up and aged 15 he became hooked on drum and bass after going to local night “Jungle Galaxy”. Getting some turntables and better music making software followed and Icicle was on his way. Icicle takes inspiration from the dirty basslines of the likes of Jonny L and Optical and the intricate drum patterns of Photek & Source Direct. With this approach Icicle’s tech funk sounds have quickly earned him DJ support from Goldie, LTJ Bukem, Fabio, London Elektricity, Pendulum, Andy C, Friction, D-Bridge, DJ Flight and Commix no less.
North London based DJ/producer Alix Perez is one of the strongest young producers in the Drum and Bass scene and undoubtedly one of its most prolific up and coming DJs. Already with a number of releases on established labels such as Liquid V, Bassbin, Creative Source, Horizons, Progress, Brigand, Fokuz and of course Shogun there aren’t many drum and bass DJs on the circuit without a Perez tune in their bag.
We welcome back SpectraSoul who have a reputation among Drum & Bass heads that’s second to none. The duo have released music on only the very finest, most respected labels in the scene. Beautifully deep and etched with grove, yet powerful enough to move any dancefloor, SpectraSoul’s stunning musical productions are a far cry from the soulless, synthetic rave fodder so many unfortunately associate with Drum & Bass today. Tracks such as ‘Alibi’ for Critical,’Melodies’ for Exit, ‘Guardian’ on Metalheadz and their stunning collaborations with Alix Perez on ‘Forsaken’ and dBridge on ‘Glimpse’, have insured SpectraSoul are one of the most talked about and respected acts in D&B today.
