ROSETTA

“Metal for Astronauts” return to Ithaca! Back in 2010, Rosetta rose above their pears in the poorly labeled “post-metal” genre by cranking up the intensity and tempo on , “A Determinism of Morality”, giving their spacey metal and ambient electronics a seriously ferocious hardcore backbone. Fantastic dynamics, robust riffs, huge drums and devastating bass - all things Rosetta, but more focused and condensed. Rosetta concentrate, if you will. If memory serves, vocalist Armine said in an interview with IU’s FREE! that he wanted listeners to be exhausted by the time they finished the record. And boy-howdy, did they ever pull it off.

2011 found the Philly quartet back in full force releasing a split with former tourmates Junius, hitting Europe with City of Ships, participating in Metal Suckfest with Cynic, Obscura, etc… and touring the US with Kylesa, A Life Once Lost, and more.

IU and Rosetta go back to their Ithaca debut early in ‘09 when they destroyed our ears at the second “all ages Saturday” at The Haunt (the show w/ Snowstorm’s 9 min set), then returned a few months later with Ottawa’s Buried Inside on what would be their last US tour, then in Jan ‘10 they came through as part of the juggernaut tour with pals Battlefields and City of Ships. When Rosetta is on an Ithaca bill, it’s always one of the most memorable heavy shows of the year, so don’t miss out on their first appearance in town in over two years!

A five-piece out of Philly with releases on Poison City, Tiny Engines, Paper & Plastic, Cavity - inducing a split w/ their aforementioned city brethren, Rosetta - and features former members of Jena Berlin.

Got your attention yet? Good. This post-hardcore troop… sorry, let’s rephrase that. The “post-hardcore’ tag gets tossed around too often without meaning. We’re talking a seamless blend of hardcore, Americana, roots rock, with tinges of post-punk, shoegaze and even some occasional, heavier stoner influence. But, they’re just fine being called a rock band. Great lyrics with athematic choruses of gruff vocals, guitars, keys, bass, and drums. They’ve been picking up attention with their growing discography of EPs, FEST 10 appearance, ‘11 tours, and CMJ appearance. Nothing like a solid group of jaded punks making solid music. They don’t tour often so, we’re damn stoked to have them on this time out!

Piotr Pillardy, Gabe Millman, Maclen Stanlen, and Mike Ives are creating some great melodic math-rock right here in Ithaca! Their debut at Risley Hall at Cornell with Porches/Nelsonvillains certainly turned some heads. Late in 2011 the band hit the studio with Gabe at the helm to begin work on their debut EP. Third time’s a charm guys - let’s go crazy! Members of Mouth To Mouth To Mouth, Makeshift, and Speak Daggers if the names didn’t give that away already.

These guys made my jaw drop with their fusing punk energy with prog-rock intelligence and heavier elements. Killer baselines, searing guitar, tight percussion and occasional vocals all swirling, pushing, and pulling each other with conceptual lyrics under a smooth compositional hand. These soon-to-be former Ithacans are relocating to Virginia at the end of 2011 and we look forward to their homecoming visit on this show!
