Dave Turncrantz is the best drummer I've seen live. The noise he gets from that 4-peice is incredible!

Russian Circles were especially good considering the guitarist was playing with a recently-broken thumb on his fretting hand.

Definitely agree with almost every view here - Astrohenge really good, Deafheaven, erm, 'not my thing', and Russian Circles were spectacular. I wasn't sure how 'big' their sound would be live, but they managed to replicate the sound from the records plus give it that live energy. Can't believe how much care went into getting their sound spot on. Awesome.

I had never heard Deafheaven before and I thought the singer looked like a cross between the Killers singer and Michael Buble. When he started doing his black metal vocals over the prog indie rock music I almost burst out laughing. Russian Circles were fantastic though and Astrohenge were good as well.

Astrohenge blew me away with skill, and Russian Circles put on a good show, but Deafheaven were definitely the band of the evening. Pretentious mini-review incoming: I am by no means exaggerating when I say Deafheaven are the best live act I've ever seen. I've never felt closer to music. I had something akin to what some may call a religious experience. I moved and laughed involuntarily and I almost cried. I was consumed by a wall of sound that could only be penetrated by otherworldy vocals. God may not be dead after all, he merely moves on through hipsters playing shoegazey black metal.

Seriously, the Deafheaven vocalist is like a hybrid of Ian Curtis and Gaahl gone wrong.

Astrohenge - amazing. Deafheaven - all that's wrong with black metal. Russian Circles - neck hurts from headbanging.

I have so much love for both Thrice and Russian Circles, but after having seen RC live a couple of days ago... I AM GREEDY AND WANT BOTH.
