"Anna Maria’s concert celebrates the conclusion of Poland’s Presidency of the EU Council
Anna Maria Jopek - Poland’s top jazz performer - will play her first Irish gig on 12th December 2011 at Liberty Hall. Her signature projects feature award winning partnerships with some of the best known names in the world of jazz. In 2002, she collaborated on an album Upojenie (Rapture) with jazz guitarist Pat Metheny. In 2007 she recorded the album ID with such artists as Mino Cinelu, Christian McBride, Richard Bona, Branford Marsalis, Dhafer Youssef, Tord Gustavsen and Oscar Castro-Neves.
She is the recipient of numerous awards for her music, including Michel Legrand's Personal Award in Vitebsk in 1994, a clutch of Polish music awards and several gold and platinum records. In April/May 2009 she staged an international tour with stops in Russia, Indonesia, Singapore and Japan.
In Dublin, Anna Maria will present her latest album Polanna, one of the trilogy released in October 2011. Polanna is the search for the essence of Polish soul in music, with arrangements by multiple Grammy Award winner Gil Goldstein and Krzysztof Herdzin. The programme will also consist of Anna Maria’s two other latest releases: a Portuguese-inspired album Sobremesa as well as the Japanese-influenced Haiku.
Anna is original, unique, different. She's brave, she's modest, she's open. She's a great musician. What she's been doing all her life is just trying to choose the best notes. Pat Metheny
