ARCANE ROOTS are a very new London based 3 piece who came together in 2009 and are now already set to release their quite incredible debut mini album ‘Left Fire’. Influenced by the likes of Fall of Troy, Foals, Refused and At the Drive-In/The Mars Volta this stunning record manages to be ambitious and pop, heavy and epic, comfortingly familiar and something completely unique - fresh in equal measure and all at the same time.
Surrey Trio with an ear for melody and appetite for destruction…They look set for a big 2011” [Kerrang!]
“Arcane Roots sound so fresh, special, and deliciously unpredictable. Wherever they go next… It’s sure to be a fascinating listen.” 8/10
“Arcane Roots are all about the musical muscle, blending their own brand of At The Drive-In grit with massive Biffy hooks…The production of their latest tunes is ruddy huge…”
“Arcane Roots have stumbled onto the perfect combination of pop and rock to create a truly awesome sound…the band have done well to catch their musical power on record, having said this it is live where the band really show their true potential, with a blistering show that leaves you mesmerized and begging for more.”

Support comes from The Cape Of Good Hope
Bromsgrove’s The Cape Of Good Hope have managed to pull off the trick all bands with a penchant for spazzy American influenced post-hardcore should in order to rise above an otherwise arty mire of noise; they infuse their eclectic and expansive music with melody at every turn. In the the last minute of ’Peepshows And Discos’ this is to such an extent it’s almost impossible not to imagine a baying crowd of thousands being sent into rapture by the looped vocal refrain. However, with jarring guitars, complex rhythms, fucked up time signatures, and the employment of a mirage of different musical styles, they’re still dangerous as hell. Welcome them into your heart.

Opening we have ROMANS
Question: What do you get if you take four lads from the arsehole of nowhere, and lock them inside a factory with a set of instruments?
Answer: Romans.
Likened by Kerrang! Unsigned’s Alex Baker to “a roundhouse kick to the face”, the Kidderminster four-piece have become renowned for their powerful brand of Rock ‘n’ Roll, which takes influences from everything good about heavy music over the last 30 years, and entwines it with a modern outlook to provide something as refreshing as it is punishing.
Don’t be fooled though, Romans have more to them than heart-pounding drums and relentless guitar riffs; their ability to throw unforgettable melodies into the mix has seen their songs - as well as their name – remain firmly etched in the minds of those that have seen them.
Their debut EP, ‘Black Ties’ exhibits the band’s sound as captured by Chris Coulter of Stakeout Studios (Arcane Roots, We Are The Ocean, The Ghost of a Thousand), and with a release date set for mid-June, the band are soon to be taking over speakers and live venues across the country.
Advice? Join the Roman Army now, or be crushed in its’ wake.

Inetria Blooms
After a year in relative seclusion sculpting a sound that floats between Prog, Post and Math rock, Inertia Blooms are emerging with a plethora of new material, and have just started recording their debut album at Temple Of Boom Studios. The four piece are Stourbridge’s biggest recent export, with their 2008 EP ‘Course, Camarade, Le Vieux Monde est Derriere Toi’, and it’s 2009 companion piece ‘The Past Is Just Behind You’ totalling over 20,000 downloads through net label ‘Lost Children’.
There are oh so many varied influences within this brilliant little EP, Tool (10,000 Days), Pink Floyd (Dark Side…) and even Deftones (self-titled). For those of you who love not so obvious prog or just something to zone out to I really can’t recommend this enough.
9/10 -
Sounding a little bit like Oceansize in places and Sigur Ros in others, this three-track EP - titled ‘Cours Camarade Le Vieux Monde Est Derriere Toi’ - is best listened to loudly, not on little headphones like this Rock Sound reviewer. There’s nothig hugely original here, but it’s a pleasant and essential listen. 7/10 -
Inertia Blooms (****), are terrific. Coming across like Explosions In The Sky with vocals, they have the same glacial prettiness as EITS, with a willingness to break into Pelican-esque heaviness. They’d probably rate even higher had we seen their entire set- that said, we saw three songs, which went nearly 20 minutes. Outstanding.
With long songs to play with, the band exploit the opportunity to have both extended heavy pile-driving sections and long dulcet instrumental melodies. Amazing. 9/10
