I drove from Kirkcaldy to Birmingham on April 1992 to his show on the Whenever We Wanted tour. And I still have the t shirt. This was totally different from back then. Much more raw. Mellencamp never one for over production was pretty stripped down here. I heard a few folk moan that he didn't do the old songs exactly they way he did them originally. If that's what they want, they would be better just listening to his old albums. This was a masterclass of fine musicianship with fine musicians. Quite a night indeed. Clever bit of work combining the Death Letter riff into Pink Houses too.
20 years of waiting almost over.
The last time JM was anywhere near me, he was playing Birmingham, that's the West Midlands one :-), the same night Rush were in Glasgow and I saw them for the first time. Try keeping the smile off my face on Sunday.
