I think I was 12 when First Impressions of Earth came out. I had never been to a concert before and wanted to see The Strokes more than anything. After all, they were the band that started my interest (my real interest, not just listening to whatever my brother gave me) in music. But, I was 12 and my brother didn’t want to take me. I figured it wasn’t a big deal…they’d release another album soon enough or at least go on tour soon. I didn’t think I would be waiting until 2011 to see them, or even hear from them again.
Last Friday, I got the chance to see The Strokes perform in their home town on the stage of Madison Square Garden. Until then, I had never been to a show at a venue so enormous and so packed. It was a really different experience from seeing shows at Starland Ballroom or even at Festival Pier, but it had its merits.
