Overall a pretty bad gig. Liked Ariel Pink, Beach House and Blonde Redhead but Deerhunter killed me. They are one of my favourite bands. I was at the front for them. The sound was fucking awful all through their set. It sucked to see Bradford Cox so frustrated. Ladyhawke was absolutely terrible. So were Yeasayer. I left one or two songs into their set.

Overall a great gig - I hope that we get something similar next year. Bar queues were short. Auditorium was cool and pleasant. Crowd was very polite. Beach house were the standout for me by some margin. Great sound, and the slower tracks were just crushingly beautiful live. Also really enjoyed Blonde Redhead and Yeasayer. Deerhunter had a 'mare - completely butchered Desire lines with one false start, and then the bass player pulled the pin. Once they got their act together, "helicopter" was great. Perhaps they are one of those bands that benefits from a dedicated PA setup. When they played the SFBH last year they were incredibly good. Arial Pink had moments, but it was a tough slot, and the after work crowd were not quite in the right frame of mind. Ladyhawke was very straight-ahead. Not sure the mix was right as everything seemed in time but one song just seemed very similar to the next. Soaring pop moments conspicuously absent.

Welcome to New Zealand. Everything is ridiculously fucking expensive. ANY band at even a semi-decent venue seems to cost at minimum $90. And some wonder why this country sucks so hard when it comes to music.
