Description

Civil Society is proud to announce the much anticipated return of The National to Australia. Brooklyn’s brooding rockers will be playing Sydney and Melbourne headline shows, along with their appearances at the Falls, Southbound, and Sunset Sounds festivals. The band will be touring on the back of their fifth studio album, the critically acclaimed High Violet (Out now through Remote Control/Inertia).

Since their debut self-titled album, The National have crept their way into hearts and minds of audiences with their somber tones and soaring melodies. It was however in 2005 with the release Alligator and such as singles Mr November that the band were discovered by a wider audiences.

The release of the incendiary Boxer in 2007 saw The National build this acclaim and popularity. Establishing themselves as a unqiue and distinct act. Their ability to stir audiences did not go unnoticed even by US President Barrack Obama who adopted Fake Empire as part of the promotion of his presidential run.

In 2010 The National completed their latest epic High Violet, an album whose revealing heights are matched only by its defeating soul lows. The juxtaposition of these harrowing and

heartwarming moments has been the one constant through out The National’s career as they tune their craft, creating works that seem to be able to touch and awaken moments in the listener they had long since forgotten. Their songs are detailed and warm they move around you and indeed the band described them as having both the texture of “hot tar” or “loose wool”.

At every turn The National have managed to quietly and without ceremony to astound. “People can’t say that we’re a flash in the pan. We’re more like a smudge in the bottom of the pan that you can’t get rid of” says vocalist Matt Berninger. There’s no doubt in their caliber, tickets to their London Royal Albert Hall performance selling out in 4 minutes and presidents personally requesting a copies of High Violet.

With excitement continuing to build about this tenacious band, developed and refined over 10 years, there’s no doubting that their time has arrived. Civil Society is thrilled to welcome The National back to Australia. Don’t miss your chance to see their tortured brooding grandeur in person.
