Eclectic composer/keyboardist Masabumi Kikuchi (aka Poo Sun or Poo) boasts one of the most distinctive resumes in music today, having been associated with a diverse group of artists, including Miles Davis, Gil Evans, Lionel Hampton, Elvin Jones, Helen Merrill, Paul Motian, Greg Osby, Gary Peacock and Sonny Rollins since coming to the United States from Japan, where he performed regularly with that country’s two most popular artist Sadao Watanabe and Terumasa Hino. Kikuchi is probably best known for his ongoing collaborations with Gil Evans’ Orchestra and as a member of the collaborative group Tethered Moon with Gary Peacock and Motian, as well as the latter’s own band Trio 2000 plus.
