Xavier_: Actually they're nothing like what gets played in an EBM club (a lot of which is harsh noise set to EBM beats...). Irrespective they were awful, uninspired, pretentious tripe, music made for the sake of making music without passion, drive or concept, just generic IDM with some pseudo-doom sections spliced in badly while having the aesthetic of every other peon on Southern Lord. Although VoV is very much my thing, like most ambient music I question the need to see it live... Ulver were great but a) the sound guy was a moron (Operator was a complete disaster) and b) the set was nigh on identical to last time, so what exactly did I shell out for, aside from Hallways of Always of course?

To throw a spanner in the works, I thought Necro Deathmort were gash. The rhythms were verry uninspired and repetitive (could have done with a live drummer, perhaps mixing it up every now and again), the guitars were really quiet and has no distortioned 'crush' to them, and the 'spooky' minor-key synth tunes playing underneath it all were very pedestrian and what I would called immature. They're no different to what you can hear in EBM clubs all over the country. Now, had they had some harsh noise instead of the synths and guitars, that would have given everything a bit more bite and texture and I would have been much happier...

@ forra6: It's basically a hard book like cover with the gold printed image on (like you said, there's pictures on the official Ulver site). There are no pages or booklet. Just a track list and the credits on the inside of the cover. The CD disc has the same print. It cost £25. My copy has Kristoffer Rygg and Tore Ylwizaker signatures inside. Also, another comment on the show: Daniel O'sullivan was amazing on the night. His key skills were totally essential and the playing was so emotive! Also when he started wailing the root notes of the chords in Eos on electric guitar. It sounded immmmmense. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O715HyjYDV0

I don't really like the cover of the vinyl version of Shadows of the Sun. Just isn't as epic as the original cover.

How limited SoTS looks like ? Has better booklet than standard edition, or something more ? Can anyone made some photos (on ulver site exists some, but can't see inside part of it) and how much it costed ?

Yeah, words on VoV... I thought it was immensely original, and performance wise, it was great. The second piece he performed was by far the best. The low throat singing and the percussive sound he managed to build up then coupled with the agonising narration. I think the concept is very experimental, but he totally nailed it. My aural pallet responds really well to hearing things that I've never heard before, even if these things are fairly minimal, so whether or not I 'understood' or 'got it', was fairly irrelevant as at that moment in time, it excited me. He could potentially do some amazing performances with this, and more musical and less sound effects-ish. If he starts taking advantage of the rhythms you can create using delay and also sung melodies with extra harmonies.
