Few musical experiences match the roller coaster ride that is THE MARS VOLTA and through constant touring they have earned the reputation as one of the best live bands on the planet.

With BIG DAY OUT 2010 selling out around the country this is your only opportunity to catch what is truly a phenomenal live experience.

Playing a blistering two hour live show that showcases all the experimental, technically mind blowing and original music of Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodirguez-Lopez this promises to be one of the gigs of the year.

Since emerging from the ashes of El Paso’s lauded and lamented At the Drive-In in 2002, composer and guitarist Rodirguez-Lopez and incredibly dexterous vocalist Bixler-Zavala have followed their muse in whichever direction it takes them; so, far the journey has been the ride of the creative lifetime.

Their fifth album, Octahedron, takes all the energy, all of the furious invention that has characterized THE MARS VOLTA’s music so far, and distills it with a clarity they’ve never before achieved.

The sound may be less aggressive than 2008’s The Bedlam in Goliath, but touring with a pared-down six-piece line-up of Bixler-Zavala, Rodriguez-Lopez, bassist Juan Alderete, keyboardist Isaiah Ikey Owens, Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez on percussion and synths, and drummer Thomas Pridgen, THE MARS VOLTA are still blistering, ferocious, and set the stage alight like no other.

The UK’s The Independent said in July “THE MARS VOLTA practically exploded onto the stage, rousing the crowd from the first hyperactive guitar chords and terrifying drum rhythms. Rodriguez-Lopez and Bixler-Zavala are the ultimate showmen.

yep, the mastodon guys were there for most of the show. rknight64, that was a DJ set before (Foundation Stepper). The band asked for 'an experimental dub DJ.': http://www.croakinglizard.com/foundation_stepper/index.html Epic show

Yeah the gig and the kettle was amazing! ha, i figured Cedric had a bit of a cold and needed the tea / lemsip to just maintain his voice. Was cool seeing Troy and Bill from Mastodon on the side. Yea the acoustic was being played by a dude on the left side of the stage. Jam's were awesome too.

one of the guitar techs was playing the acoustic guitar... on the left side of the stage, pretty much out of sight.

haha yeah at first i thought it was just a crappy smoke machine. i heard Cedric doenst believe in warming-up before a gig so i guess that helps him. my friend was bagging his vocals, i didnt think he was too bad

I saw a guy using a laptop up the back... acoustic guitar maybe pre-recorded. I just remembered something else too, at what other gig would you see a kettle on the side of the stage? Hahaha.

very good setlist. damn people getting restless during the ambient jam seshes. its a Mars Volta concert, what do you expect? was there a acoustic guitar hidden somewhere or was it all pre-recorded? nothing worse to kill the mood when you hearing something but cant see it. overrall good night though
