On Tuesday November 10th, Canadian singer/songwriter Matt Andersen returns to The Grapes, Sheffield, by popular demand after another blistering performance here earlier this year. Matt is making his fourth visit to the UK. His energetic acoustic blues, heartfelt ballads and honeyed voice have seen him prove to be a very popular live draw on his previous visits and produced spectacular shows from just one man and a guitar. Doors open 8pm and advance tickets priced at £6 are available from Seetickets.com. The price on the night will be £8. Support comes from Garron Frith.

***MATT ANDERSEN***

New Brunswick’s Matt Andersen is a larger than life personality who’s showmanship has been earning him a fervent and steadfast audience wherever he graces the stage. Matt’s sprawling blues, roots and rock musical hybrid, allied to his sorrowing and soulful voice, has sparked a phenomenal buzz on Canada’s east coast.

After an introductory EP, Matt released two critically acclaimed live albums of fans favourites. ‘Solo At Sessions’ was nominated in the East Coast Music Awards and was followed by ‘Live At Liberty House’. Soon after ‘Second Time Around’ was released containing studio versions of some of the popular tracks from those live works.

Along with a very busy touring schedule as a headliner at festivals, clubs and theatres throughout North America, Matt has shared a stage and toured with Bo Diddley, America, Randy Bachman and a host of others. In 2007 Matt undertook his first UK tour alongside Dave Gunning and Jessica Rhaye and proved to be a big success. He returned in 2008 and again won himself many new fans. In early 2009 he came back to promote his latest studio album ‘Something In Between’. The album was recorded in the UK and features backing from Eric Clapton’s post Cream band who have also toured and recorded with Sheffield’s own Joe Cocker and George Harrison.

Matt is a very real and rare talent, acclaimed as one of Canada’s finest guitar players. Come and see what all the fuss is about.

*Sandman Magazine* “A man who is surely going to be a friend of blues fans in South Yorkshire for a long time to come following this memorable appearance”

*The Times* “Canada’s greatest guitarist made one acoustic guitar sound like a fully staffed band. Outrageous skill and contagious joy.”

*BBC Radio 2 Paul Jones* “I like this album.”

*Maverick* “Very pleasurable album from this talented guitarist/singer/songwriter.”

*Manchester Evening News* “Matt Andersen is an acoustic bluesman whose latest CD, Second Time Around, is as cheerful and relaxed as a conversation with an old friend. The sharp picking is a blues fancier’s dream, and his voice has a restrained fervour that shines on strong original material.”

*Rock n Reel* “This is a serious collection. Matt demonstrates his considerable skills. He has a big voice, which can roar, bellow or be remarkably gentle, even managing to sound authentically black in some of his phrasing. There isn’t one track that I won’t welcome hearing again.”

*Blues Matters* “A strong release. This album comes from raw talent. I hope there’s more to follow.”

***GARRON FRITH***

Garron Frith is a songwriter from the North West of England. After a gig with Grand Drive’s Danny George Wilson he met musician/producer Simon J Alpin, the result was them making Garron’s self titled debut album. It was recorded in various hotel rooms, studios and houses everywhere from London, San Francisco, Spain to Manchester. It features 10 acoustic based songs with a wide range of musicians from Grand Drive, The Willard Grant Conspiracy to Green on Red’s Chuck Prophet all adding a delicate backdrop to the songs.

The album received critical acclaim, Sunday Express called it a “Beautiful country rock gem of an album”- 5/5, Maverick said he was “One of the North West’s best kept secrets - that is until now!” 4/5, “Highly enjoyable, Recommended”- wrote Acoustic Magazine and Manchester Music called him “One of Manchester’s most underrated singer-songwriters”. Radio and internet stations championed the album and this led to Garron being asked to open for musicians like, The Saw Doctors, Imelda May, Glen Tilbrook and Midge Ure.

One of the most popular acts to have graced our stage at The Grapes. His new album is expected very soon.
