The Harley welcomes with open arms Robert George Saull & The Purgatory Players. One of Sheffield’s most exciting acts; they experiment without being alienating or self indulgent, they list Scott Walker, Nick Cave, The Pogues, Morrissey, Jarvis Cocker, Beirut, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Adem as influences and they know how to work a crowd.

Here’s what some less biased people have said;
“Very British, in a good way.”
Jens Lekman

“Beautiful / wonderful stuff.”
Owen Brinley, Grammatics

In support we have the nu-folk sounds of Ivan Campo.

Ivan Campo

Ivan Campo, the super Spaniard with the big hair, shares his name - with a nu-folk ensemble who will take you on a journey through the mysteries of their minds. Hitchcock and The Beatles’ White Album are just some of Ivan Campo’s preoccupations. Characterised by a playful suspense, their songs are as likely to be about the unsolved death of Alexander Litvinenko as they are about love and loss.

Their latest E.P entitled ‘Super 7’ has already received airplay from the likes of Bob Harris (Radio 2) and Tom Robinson (BBC6).

“A unique and mildly unsettling sound, like David Lynch circa Blue Velvet. Can’t recommend them enough!” Yorkie - Space

“Super 7 is classic folk pop that is instantly accessible and undeniably catchy. Ivan Campo’s simplistic songs hit the mark every time” The Line Of Best Fit

“his drumless trio of guitar wielding minstrels has honed their sound and found solid gold beneath their feet. ‘Super 7’ is an outstanding folk-infused mini-album containing seven ethereal and unpretentious experiments in heartfelt wonder” Rock Sound Magazine

Another exceptional band from Sheffield.
Electric Tape Recorder

“From Sheffield, and they are genius: humorous, full of broken metaphors and salvaged instruments, mangled hearts and dead pixels. The blues, as practiced by the children of Bukowski, Captain Beefheart and Jeffrey Lewis. ” - Everette True

To round off the bill we have another great Sheffield act.

The Flying Squad

Flying Squad have produced a sound that is completely different from any on the local scene, delay on both guitars and vocals is beautifully plentiful. The song ‘Fearless Leader’ epitomises a sound which throws forward lyrics that carry a real meaning. ‘War on a wooden horse’ gives a psychedelic Spanish edge, with a smooth organ covering the velvet vocals (reminiscent of Cherry Ghost’s Simon Aldred, which is nothing but a good thing) and drums and bass which fill the track with a perfect sparse intensity.

All this for the princely sum of NOTHING.
