Blues has its origins in west africa and its a fact that the music which we consider as blues today was generated by former african slaves in the fields of the United States. So blues is as much american as any other american music, it has its origin like other genres in "the old world"
i think all genres COME from other genres, and a great deal of them are mixed - so it would be quite inaccurate to say blues comes ONLY from folk music. it does have some rockabilly and even jazz influences '-'
Thanks for your support in 2011 and Best Wishes for 2012. The song of the month for January 2012 is "Nouveau Riche". To hear "Nouveau Riche" please visit http://www.last.fm/music/Errol+Michael+"Filo"+Phillips
Hello, I've made an analysis over blues last.fm groups, and 6 artists (from >140) are characteristic:
Muddy Waters + Howlin' Wolf are leading this week the list.
What do you think of the results?
people who like, or listen to, a lot of blues music always seem to say the same thing. All music originated from blues. I just don't get it. If everything comes from blues, then what did blues originate from? Because I'm pretty damn sure music existed before blues came along.
typical country fans lol. black spirituals or american black folk music had a big part in the blues genesis. in high school our english teacher tried to tell us rap came from country lol. country music culture tends to exaggerate everything lol but the blues has influenced rock n roll far more than country has hasnt it.

@megajosh2 : Tom Waits is the fucking man, you can't deny the blues sensation that's printed in any of his songs......He may not be the most representative blues musician, that's true, but he's a fantastic bluesman, and people agree with this feeling
