Music has been a powerful form of expression during political and social change for centuries—we’re talking about you, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley and Woody Guthrie. We like that. Everyone has an opinion and what better way to voice it than our common language?
18 Abr 2011, 23:01 de darren86The following are the top 10 albums of 1999 that I currently own. I probably own more than 10 albums from that year, but these are my favourites.
Note 1: I will be including compilations, live albums, ep's, re-issues etc, but no singles.
Note 2: If I do only own 10 from this year, the releases towards the end of the list may not be favourites of mine at all, but the best I do have from that year.
Note 3: If you think my list sucks, or needs improvements, please feel free to RECOMMEND me albums from 1999 and I will certaintly try to listen to them and give my opinions.
All comments welcome.
Another outstanding album by Savage Garden. It was such a shame that they split up after only 2 albums. I never got to see them in concert when they were still together, as I didnt really like them until a few years after they disbanded. However I did see Darren Hayes in concert in 2005 and his voice is one of the best I have ever heard, totally beautiful. Amazing band, amazing album. 5/5

In 1946, American folk legend Woody Guthrie proclaimed about his music: The human race will sing this way as long as there is a human to race. The human race is a pretty old place.” Almost 65 years later Guthrie's statement still holds true as a generation of singer-songwriters in New Brunswick continue the folk tradition in churches, theatres, cafés, festivals, halls and homes.
With the stars starting to poke out of a navy blue sky and the sliver of crescent moon low in the west, darkness enveloped Grand Manan. Fighting the pitch, a small bonfire burned and single-bulb floodlights lit up a repurposed flatbed stage framed by LCD Christmas lights in a field behind Gallaways restaurant overlooking Flagg Cove.
It was the second night of the inaugural Island Folk Festival, which featured nearly 20 musicians from Halifax to Winnipeg from Sept. 10-12. In most of New Brunswick there was still a good week of summer left, but on Grand Manan it was a night to be indoors. …

There was so many animal tracks to to choose from that I needed some kind of theme to filter through them all. Eventually, I came up with this...
According to Chinese legend, the twelve animals quarreled one day as to who was to head the cycle of years. The gods were asked to decide and they held a contest: whoever was to reach the opposite bank of the river would be first, and the rest of the animals would receive their years according to their finish.
All the twelve animals gathered at the river bank and jumped in. Unknown to the ox, the rat had jumped upon his back. As the ox was about to jump ashore, the rat jumped off the ox's back, and won the race. The pig, who was very lazy, ended up last. That is why the rat is the first year of the animal cycle, the ox second, and the pig last.
