Tue 31 Mar – The Who

Let me start this by saying that, although I like The Who, it's not one of big bands in my playlist (as in "I'm don't think I can be called a fan yet".) But yes, I do enjoy a lot of their songs so, although not almost peeing in my pants like they were Def Leppard, I went to their gig in Sydney. That proved to be a smart move, after all.

The show started with Dallas Crane. The description of "alternative rock" sounds perfectly for them. I got a little bit late into their show and I thought "hey, they sound like a hard-rock Beatles", only to get a completely different type of song next and then think "They sound like The Police". Also, unfortunately for them, it seems the audio was bad equalized and drums and the second guitar had a louder volume than the rest -- so you would hear the beat taking over everything else. Really bad.

Then we had Counting Crows. Now let me be honest and say that it took me 2 songs to remember that their greatest hit was Mr.

A few comments about last night’s Who concert:

    - Townshend is still a rock God. At one point he had his arms and legs extended out just like he does on Isle of Wight’s Young Man Blues. His playing is still top notch.

    - I felt that Daltrey’s voice sounded great. This may be because it was the first night of the tour. I may see them again Nov. I’ll bet the voice will be much different then.

    - I believed they played three too many new songs. Black Widow Eyes, Fragments, and Real Good Looking Boy did not do anything for me. Man in the Purple Dress was good. Wire and Glass works much better live. And the last song, Tea And Theatre, was a nice way to end the show – just Roger and Pete. I believe that song closes out the new album too.

    - I really missed John. Not so much his playing (Pino Palladino’s plays very much like John) but his presence. I missed the 5:15 solo and (depending on the show) Borris, My Wife, or Trick of the Light. …

I got off of the Max and headed towards the stadium, went into line and picked up the tickets. Slapped acrossed the middle read, "THE WHO". Looking back a couple months ago, I would of never told you that I would of happened to have the oppurtunity to see Classic Rock legends. I would of never been able to tell you that I had seen Baba O'Reily performed live. But now I can, proudly.

An email from Rose Quarter announced a 20 dollar sale and I ran down the hall to tell my friends that we should go. So we bought them. I have many splendid pictures but it's a damn shame I didn't take one of the dancing hippie with her glowing, flashing ball. Roger and Pete put on an amazing show and when I listen to the tracks in their original recording I would have to say I enjoy Roger's voice now, in it's aged beauty :D. lol

They ended the show with Pinball Wizard and I was nothing but smiles at the end of the concert as I walked to the booth to buy my poster.
